Hot Toys Announces First Quarter Scale Iron Man – Avengers: Age of Ultron Mark XLIII

Hot Toys Quarter Scale Avengers Age of Ultron Iron Man Mark XLIII 01

Have a big house and an even bigger toy budget? For those of you who think 12-inches of Iron Man isn’t enough, Hot Toys has just announced the first quarter scale Iron Man. The Iron Man Mark XLIII from Avengers: Age of Ultron stands at an impressive 20-inches tall and has all the bells and whistles you could expect – an interchangeable Tony Stark head and three pairs of hands; LED light-up eyes, ARC reactor, and repulsors; and an Ultron Sentry base with an arm and head that Iron Man can rip off of it.

You can pre-order the Marvel Iron Man Mark XLIII Quarter Scale Figure from Sideshow Collectibles for $544.99. That’s a bargain, considering their listing for the Hot Toys Hulkbuster Iron Man (one inch taller at 21-inches tall) at $824.99. Guess it’s time to tell my wife we need a second mortgage!

Weekend Toy Run: Pre-Order the Sideshow DC Green Lantern

The Hot Toys figures from The Dark Knight trilogy got me jonesing for 1/6 scale figures from the DC Comics. And while Play Imaginative’s Super Alloy figures captured my attention for a while, it wasn’t until I got the Batman and Superman from Sideshow Collectibles’ DC line that I found something that really satisfied the itch.

The latest in the line, the DC Comics Green Lantern DC Comics Sixth Scale Figure, is now available to pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles. It’s Hal Jordan, my favorite of the Lanterns, and he comes with interchangeable hands and boots (for standing or flying), a power construct, and lantern.

Sideshow Collectibles Batman Gotham Knight Sixth Scale Preview and Giveaway

I’ve been having a great time taking pictures of the exclusive Sideshow Collectibles Batman from last year (check out @AFPRon on Instagram) – it’s easily my favorite Batman figure I’ve owned (and I have a lot of them). While the sixth scale Batman is still available in the non-exclusive version, if your tastes run toward the black and gray, Sideshow has put up a preview of a “Gotham Knight” variant of Batman.

In addition to the palette change to black and gray, the Gotham Knight version of Bats has some other changes from the original. It comes with three portraits with interchangeable facial expressions – the newest having extra long bat ears, reminiscent of Kelley Jones’s rendition of the Dark Knight. Mix and match ears to grimaces to your heart’s content. The bat symbol on his chest is also different from the original, and the buckle on his utility belt matches the pouches (on the earlier Batman the buckle was a darker metallic.

I think I’m set with the blue and gray, but if you haven’t yet jumped on this line, you couldn’t go wrong with either. The Gotham Knight Batman will go up for pre-order tomorrow, for $199.99. Sideshow is also giving away a Gotham Knight Batman – so check out the preview to enter.

Soapbox Sunday (the Late Edition): Online Feud Exposes the Ugly Side of the Toy Review Business

The Critic

There’s an old adage – do what you love, and the money will follow. In the world of toys (and probably every other industry), they should have inserted “sometimes.” There are some good examples where it works, like the customizer who parlayed his considerable talents into a professional sculpting career. There’s a lot of bad, like the dirty rotten scalpers who try to legitimize their businesses by opening “professional” online stores.

And then there’s the ugly. Yes, I’m talking about some “professional” toy reviewers.
