SDCC 2013: Hasbro Transformers 30th Anniversary Panel Reveals

Fan Built Bot

Yes, our Transformers coverage at SDCC was terrible. It started Thursday when I pulled a novice move and left Room 25ABC because I had a couple hours to kill between Mattel’s first panel and Hasbro’s Transformers 30th Anniversary panel. I got back to the room with plenty of time, but the line to get in was super-long. On top of that, the previous panel was for the Transformers on the small screen, so very few seats opened up.

Thankfully, Hasbro sent us these images for showing off the reveals in the panel. The big news – for the 30th Anniversary, they are introducing the Thrilling 30 – numbered action figures that spawn the lines in the brand. The thirty will include Windblade, the fan-built bot created earlier in the year. My votes must have counted about a million each, because she turned out almost exactly like what I picked – the exception is that Windblade is an Autobot, not a Decepticon. Boo to the good guys.

The thirty will also include figure(s) from the new Transformers Construct-Bots line that Hasbro introduced to us over breakfast. Hasbro listed out the first eleven on the list, and also sent out pics for upcoming figures from each of their Transformers lines.

DC Comics Classic TV Series Batman and Robin 2-Pack Available Now on Amazon

DC Comics Classic TV Series Batman and Robin Action Figure, 2-Pack DC Comics Classic TV Series Batman and Robin Action Figure, 2-Pack 2

If you’ve been waiting for Mattel’s Batman Classic TV Series line to become available, Amazon now has the Batman and Robin 2-pack in stock for $29.99. That’s a bit early, since they had been showing with an August 1 availability date during pre-orders.

Maybe it’s just semantics, because while the 2-pack shows in stock, the listing says it may take one or two days extra to process. As Robin would say, “Holy six of one, half dozen of the other, Batman!” You’re right. Robin would never say that.

SDCC 2013: MATRIX Photo Booth – Cosplay and More Gallery – Thursday

SDCC 2013 - Matrix Photo Booth - Thursday

Here’s Thursday, the second day (officially the first day since Preview Night doesn’t count) of San Diego Comic-Con, as shot by Richard of the MATRIX Photo Booth. Thursday is when the cosplayers really start coming out, because on Preview Night folks are worried about getting badges and aren’t so keen on dressing up for the short evening of Con.

There’s over 250 shots in this gallery, and over a thousand for the five days of SDCC. If you missed it, check out SDCC 2013 Preview Night as seen by MATRIX.

Hot Toys Reveals Three New Figures at ACGHK – The Crow, Cloud from The Storm Riders, and Tony Stark (Mechanic) from Iron Man 3

The Crow 16th scale Eric Draven Collectible Figure 1 The Storm Riders - Cloud (Comic Version) Collectible Figure 1 Iron Man 3 Tony Stark (The Mechanic) Collectible Figurine 1

While Hot Toys unveiled a slew of upcoming figures at San Diego Comic-Con, they still had some in the tank for Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong 2013 this past weekend.

  • The Crow – Brandon Lee as Eric Draven – believe it or not, I’ve never seen the movie – should I? Having only seen screen caps of the movie, it’s hard for me to judge how good the likeness is. What’s the consensus here?
  • Cloud from The Storm Riders – likewise for this figure, I’ve never read the manga, which (according to my quick internet search) has been running since 1989. Wow. For fans, I hope that Hot Toys will get around to releasing Wind, the other main character from the story. Not sure if this one will get a U.S. release.
  • Tony Stark in his mechanic gear from Iron Man 3 – with the hoodie and sunglasses I’ll think of this as the Unabomber Tony. It’s only fair that if Hot Toys is going to make half a dozen or so Iron Man armors that got a few seconds of screen time that they make the outfit that we see Tony Stark in for most of the movie. But it does beg the question – if he could call all those armors for the final fight, why didn’t he call them sooner?

I haven’t checked for pre-orders yet, but I’d check out Sideshow first since they’re the U.S. distributor, especially if you’re looking for the exclusive items, which both the Crow (weather vane) and Tony (homemade wrist repulsor) have.
