Vinyl Sugar Adds Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to its Dorbz Line

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dorbz by Vinyl Sugar and Funko

Like its illegitimate parent Funko has done with its Pop! line, Vinyl Sugar is building out the licenses for Dorbz – the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the latest addition to the line. You can already find Dorbz for DC Comics and Marvel, including the awesome Guardian of the Galaxy Dorbz. TMNT Dorbz will be available in October, with the four Turtles and villains Rocksteady and Bebop.

Also joining Dorbz in October, Jack Skellington and the gang from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas.

Hot Toys Announces Nick Fury from Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Hot Toys Captain America The Winter Soldier Nick Fury 01

Ever since he made his cameo appearance in the post-credit scene in the first Iron Man movie, I’d been wondering if we’d ever get to see what’s underneath Nick Fury’s eye patch. And after appearing in another four movies (Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers) and the Agents of SHIELD TV show, we finally did, at the climax of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. How many eye-related puns did we have to endure in the process?

The eye reveal must have motivated Hot Toys to release a new Nick Fury. The first came a few years back as part of the Hot Toys Avengers line-up. I skipped it back then, and while I think the likeness to Samuel L. Jackson is improved, I’m not sure I’ll pull the trigger here either. The Avengers Fury came with a pistol, radio, rocket launcher, and the briefcase that housed the Tessaract. In comparison, the Winter Soldier Fury comes with a pistol, cell phone, arm sling, and an encrypted thumb drive to move the plot forward. Meanwhile, the price has crept up. I’ll have to keep an eye on this one. (Groan.)

You can pre-order the Hot Toys Captain America TWS Nick Fury at Sideshow Collectibles.

Pre-Order for Mondo Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Leonardo 1/6 Scale Figure Opens Thursday

Mondo one sixth scale Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Leonardo pre-order

What a coincidence – with Mondo’s Masters of the Universe 1/6 scale teaser, I found myself wondering when they would open up the pre-orders for their TMNT Leonardo, which I’ve been waiting for since seeing them at Comic-Con. They obliged with the answer – this Thursday!

Here’s where it gets interesting. There will be three offerings. First, a general release for $149.99 (great price!) that includes Leo with a bunch of accessories. Second, an exclusive limited for $159.99 to 500 pieces that includes everything, plus Shredder’s gauntlet from the first issue of the original Mirage comic book.

And finally, a TMNT subscription that will include the exclusive versions of Leo and the three remaining Turtles. Mondo anticipates the pre-orders to be spaced a month apart. For committing to all four Turtles, the cost drops back down to $149.99, for a total of $599.96 (in installments). The rub is that these will be limited to 200 subscriptions. The pre-orders will open up this Thursday, August 27. Better get there early!

Mondo Teases Designs for Masters of the Universe 1/6 Scale Figures

Mondo caught our attention at San Diego Comic-Con with their 1/6 scale Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We’re still eagerly awaiting the pre-order for Leonardo.

But they’ve also got another license for 1/6 scale figures that promises to be equally tantalizing – Masters of the Universe. They’ve shared a teaser, and will be showing prototypes at MondoCon in Austin, TX, on October 3rd and 4th.

He-Man, She-Ra, Skeletor, and all the fantastical characters, creatures, and worlds from Masters of the Universe have inspired generations of fans over the years, and we’re thrilled represent the property at MondoCon this year. Epic battles of Good vs Evil, guiding morality lessons, and enduring character designs offer a wealth of creative opportunity for posters, collectible figures, and more!

We’re also excited to show the first in a series of MOTU 1/6 Scale Collectible Figures: He-Man & Skeletor! Designed by Dave Rapoza and Joe Allard, and sculpted by Ramirez Studios, you’ll get a sneak peek of the prototypes! Check out a tease of some of the designs below.

Mattel and the Four Horsemen Show ThunderCats Lion-O Update

Mattel Thundercats Lion-O 0815 revision

Mattel has shared pictures of an updated head sculpt and deco for Lion-O from their upcoming ThunderCats line. When I spoke to the Four Horsemen at San Diego Comic-Con, Eric Treadaway told me he had already been through several iterations of Lion-O, and expected to do several more before the final sculpt goes into production.

I already liked what I saw at SDCC, but this is an improvement – the nose and jawline look to be a little less wide, and combined with a more subtle paint job for the eyebrows and eyes, it comes a lot closer to how I remember Lion-O from the animated show. The colors also look to be toned down a little, but that can be a little deceptive depending on the lighting conditions for the pictures.

What do you think of the updated look?
