Hasbro (Return of) Marvel Legends Wave 3 Packaged Pics

When I wrote my Best Week Ever / Good Toy Karma post (reply to that post for a chance to win Free Stuff!) I was pretty excited to get my Pile of Loot from Big Bad Toy Store with RoML wave 3. Now, what Hasbro told us at SDCC was that this wave is actually a filler wave – they had only planned 2 waves in 2012 to relaunch the line, but because those got bunched up at the start of the year and because sales on those waves were good enough, they put together this third wave. And so that means there’s a heck of a lot of reuse and no build-a-figure – instead you’ll get the stand that was included with the 6-inch Wal-Mart exclusive Avengers, minus the Avengers logo.

Even so, I think this wave will be warmly received. It’s still carrying the positive buzz from the relaunch, and the reuse that’s here is done pretty well. Packaged pics only right now, but I’ll give some comments for each figure despite not having them open yet.

SDCC 2012: Hasbro Marvel Legends Preview Night

Marvel Legends Preview Night (17) (1278x1280).jpg

My first stop on San Diego Comic-Con’s Preview Night was the Hasbro booth – I was so pumped after reviewing the Marvel Legends exclusive Uncanny X-Force 3-pack that I wanted to see what was next for the line.

Marvel Legends Card Art and Punisher and Blade Reveals – Marvel.com

A couple of (Return of) Marvel Legends updates from Marvel.com – first up is the card art for Deadpool, Punisher, and Blade, and the reveals for the Punisher and Blade figures.

Hasbro has secured Clayton Crain for RoML series 3, due out in September. The choice is fitting because Deadpool will be reissued, this time in his X-Force colors, and Crain is serving as the artist on that book. This will mark the 3rd variant for this figure – the first two Deadpools came in the Marvel Legends 2-packs from way back in 2010, in his classic red and black and the one issue X-Men blue and yellow. I’m a fan of this Deadpool even though we’ve already seen it a lot – the X-Force version will go great with the SDCC exclusive X-Force 3-pack that will have Wolverine, Archangel, and Psylocke.

Punisher and Blade will continue the Thunderball / Piledriver and Madame Masque / Madame Hydra execution which will feature variant figures sharing the same cardback. I really dig this approach in theory as it gives us another character – in practice I hope availability for the variants become better, since it’s been the aftermarket for me for them so far. Great re-use on these figures – I think they’ll look great. For Punisher, I hope it’s an easy customizing conversion to lose the jacket and give him spandex arms.

Toy Fair 2012 – Hasbro Marvel Legends Report

Hasbro Marvel Legends (1280x719).jpg

I can’t tell you how good it feels to be writing about Marvel Legends again at Toy Fair. Sure, the Marvel team got the clean-up spot in the schedule of yesterday’s presentations at Hasbro’s Media Fan Day, and Legends got the last spot in the Marvel presentation, but the showroom was a sea of the unwashed masses for most of the afternoon – it’s good to be back!

Dave Vonner got the nod for presenting both Legends and Universe (I’ll cover Marvel Universe separately), and while he didn’t get to reveal a whole lot for Legends, we got to see the progression for some of the Series 3 figures, as well as a reveal for 2012 – the Squadron Supreme’s Hyperion. Hyperion was shown as a rendering of a digital sculpt (I’ll guess Gentle Giant) and as such wasn’t available in the showroom. What we did see in there was both Series 1 (see Sandman’s review of Extremis Iron Man) and 2 packaged samples, as well as painted prototypes of Blade and U.S. Agent.

Hot Toys Blade Trinity Abigail Whistler Feature – Milk Magazine

Hot Toys posted a 5-page feature from Hong Kong’s Milk Magazine on its Facebook page. It includes lots of images of the upcoming MMS Abigail Whistler from Blade Trinity that they just announced a few days ago. I’m liking the Jessica Biel likeness even more. Do you think this means we’ll eventually see a Hannibal King / Ryan Reynolds figure from Hot Toys?
