Toy Fair 2015: LEGO Marvel and DC Super Heroes

Toy Fair 2015 LEGO Super Heroes (43 of 44)

We’ll have a few LEGO posts this morning to kick off our official coverage of Toy Fair 2015. And wow, it’s bitter cold in NYC and LEGO opened the show this morning before I’d normally be going to bed on the West Coast (at least some nights) – so take mercy on me if it’s a rough start.

The Super Heroes licenses with Marvel and DC continue to chug on in 2015. The Marvel side is supported by the Avengers and Ant Man movies, while DC relies on the the mainstays of Justice League and Batman (even the Green Lantern set has got a Space Batman mini-figure.)

Avengers Assemble! – LEGO Reveals Massive SHIELD Helicarrier

When LEGO Nick Fury makes you a bet, get ready to pay up – because you’re about to get a tour of the newest Marvel Super Heroes LEGO set – the SHIELD Helicarrier from the first Avengers movie. Set in the LEGO microscale, the Helicarrier still manages to clock in at over 2.5 feet long, and almost 1.5 feet wide and a foot tall.

It’s stocked with three Quinjets, three jets, and enough vehicles and 12 microscale figures to support them – this includes 8 SHIELD agents. I think the only thing missing is a monitor with Galaga on it. Also included are five regular-sized minifigures – Nick Fury, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and (taking a cue from Hasbro) an exclusive Maria Hill that can only be found with the Helicarrier set.

Amazed? Time to pay up – only it will set you back a little more than that $10 you owe Fury – $349.99, to be precise. Avengers Assemble!

Soapbox Sunday: Did Hasbro Miss Their Best Chance to Release the Marvel Legends Bulldozer?

The Wrecking Crew

In just a couple of weeks, it will have been two years since Hasbro first showed us the Wrecker and Bulldozer, and gave Wrecking Crew fans the hope of completing that foursome in their Marvel Legends collections. We had gotten Thunderball and Piledriver as variant swaps in an earlier wave, and the plan was to do the same for the remaining pair by the middle of 2013.

But while the Wrecker made it to shelves, retailers threw Hasbro a curveball, necessitating a rebranding plan to tie Marvel Legends more closely to the Marvel movies. And we’ve been waiting for the fourth and final member of the Wrecking Crew ever since.

This begs the question – did Hasbro already miss their best chance to release the Marvel Legends Bulldozer?
