Weekend Toy Run: Legendary Scale Marvel Doctor Doom by Sideshow Collectibles (I Wish!)

Doctor Doom Legendary Scale Figure by Sideshow Collectibles 05

Yeah, I’m just doing some pretty legendary wishful thinking this weekend, looking at this Legendary Scale Doctor Doom by Sideshow Collectibles. It’s over four feet tall. It weighs 35 pounds. Doom comes with classic, modern, and scarred head sculpts. Damn you, Reed Richards! Over 15 artists contributed to making the figure. Wow.

It’s up for pre-order for the low low price of $1,999.99 – and that’s before tax and shipping. So only the biggest Dr. Doom fans with a toy budget the size of Latveria’s GDP would be really thinking of getting this figure. Who dares order Dr. Doom? Not me – as much as I fear Dr. Doom, my wife is scarier.

NYCC 2013: Kotobukiya Statues

NYCC 2013 - Kotobukia (1 of 47)

The show’s over, but I’ll have more NYCC galleries over the next couple days.

Kotobukiya is not my typical fare – no budget or space for them – but they produce some of the most beautiful statues from across pop culture domains. They’ve got licenses for movies, video games, comics, and more.

NYCC 2013: Play Imaginative Super Alloy Iron Man Quarter Scale House Party

NYCC 2013 - Play Imaginative Super Alloy Iron Man One Quarter (1 of 32)

While Play Imaginative didn’t show quite as many quarter scale Super Alloy Iron Man figures as they did in 1/12 scale, they still have enough in the works to rival the impressive showing that Hot Toys has in 1/6. If you consider that these are upwards of 80% diecast parts, then there’s really no comparison, since Hot Toys only just started producing figures in diecast.

I think the competition will be good for us as collectors – but for now in the United States, the licenses don’t overlap. If you want high-end 1/12 or 1/4 scale figures, it’s Play Imaginative. If you want 1/6, then it’s Hot Toys.

Weekend Toy Run: Marvel Universe Iron Man 3 Hall of Armor 6-Pack

Iron Man 3 Marvel Hall of Armor Collection Action Figure 1 Iron Man 3 Marvel Hall of Armor Collection Action Figure 2

Amidst all this diecast Iron Man goodness from Play Imaginative, let’s not forget that there’s already a line of Iron Man action figures that could satisfy your urge to build a hall of armor. Sure, the Marvel Universe figures from Hasbro are all plastic, not diecast, but that combined with their smaller size means they’re a lot easier on the wallet, too.

However, this six-pack of figures has been selling in the neighborhood of $100 on the secondary market – while 4 of the figures are repacks with the ARC Reactor glow, the Mark 42 and the Tony Stark figures are exclusive to the set. And the only other way to get a Mark 42 in this scale is via the Assemblers line, which is not as articulated. Luckily, the set is now more abundant, and Amazon has it on sale.

Note: Just saw that Wal-Mart has the Iron Man 3 Hall of Armor for the same price, but you have to get to $50 to get free shipping.

NYCC 2013: Play Imaginative Super Alloy Iron Man 1/12 Extravaganza

NYCC 2013 - Play Imaginative Super Alloy Iron Man One Twelfth (1 of 57)

Before NYCC, I thought I was overwhelmed with the number of Iron Man figures that Hot Toys is pumping out. Thus, I was totally unprepared for the Iron Wars that have been waged on me by Play Imaginative. Courtesy of Yes Anime, the Play Imaginative distributor in the United States, I was assaulted by the sheer tonnage of Iron Man armors that were on display.

Mind you, this post, including 57 pictures, is only of the 1/12 scale figures they brought to the show. Sure, some figures have more than one pic, but I believe there’s over fifty (wow!) unique 6-inch scaled Iron Man armors on display.
