Wolverine Comics 99-Cent Sale

I remember when comics cost a buck, but now that’s the sales price! [/Old Man Logan rant]

Marvel.com has 75 digital issues of the Wolverine comic book series up for sale this weekend, to celebrate the release of The Wolverine to theaters. This includes the much lauded Old Man Logan arc, including the Giant-Sized Old-Man Logan one-shot, in case you want some real Old Man Logan ranting.

And if you happen to be going to the movies this weekend, if you order your tickets to The Wolverine through Fandango, they’ve posted a promo for a digital download for the comic book.

The Avengers: Angry Man! – BillsComics.com

It’s the Avengers vs. Hulk in “Angry Man!” – the latest from Bill’s Comics. The comic features a cover by Glenn Turner. If you’re familiar with the style, it’s because you may recognize it from Glenn’s work as a photographer. His portfolio includes work with Hasbro photographing action figures. Kudos!

Hot Toys Reveals Iron Man Mark XXXIII Silver Centurion

Hot Toys Silver Centurion Iron Man 1

The design team for Iron Man 2 had given the nod to the Silver Centurion armor with the Mark V Suitcase Armor, with its red and silver color scheme. But Iron Man 3 went all the way, modeling the Mark XXXIII directly off of the Silver Centurion armor from the comics. It’s still got the distinctive look of the movie armors, but with the coloring, the triangular arc reactor, and flared shoulders, it’s the one that most closely resembles the comic look. I don’t remember Stark in the armor, but I’ll take Hot Toys’ word for it and watch that fight sequence more closely when I see Iron Man 3 again. I’m not sure if the blades are from the comics, took inspiration from Wolverine (are you seeing that movie this weekend?) or just invented for the purposes of hacking limbs off of enemies for the movie.

Look to the usual suspects for pre-orders, but I would bet that Sideshow will have an exclusive version that includes that extra battle-damaged helmet.

Hot Toys Unveils Iron Man 3 Silver Centurion

When I’m at an event like San Diego Comic-Con or Toy Fair and taking pictures to post, a lot of times I don’t even have time to think about what I’m shooting. For example, I have been anticipating the arrival of the Silver Centurion armor from Iron Man 3 with all of the previous Hot Toys Iron Man 3 releases from the massive army of Iron Men scene from the movie.

And there it is, in my shots of the Hot Toys figures at Sideshow’s SDCC booth. But of course, while shooting that I was thinking about all of the preview teasers Hot Toys had leading up to the show, and didn’t even notice the Silver Centurion until seeing this news.

SDCC 2013: NECA – Marvel, DC, Video Games, Movies and TV

IMG_1305.JPG

With its expansion into quarter scale figures, NECA has been able to add Marvel and DC movies (even the Batman classic TV series spawned a movie) to its impressive array of licensed action figures. They continue to own classic movies from my youth in the 7-inch scale, expanding its Alien, Predator, Robocop, Gremlins, and more. With the Lone Ranger, Kick-Ass, and Pacific Rim, they’re getting their piece of modern hits too.

On the video game front, they seem focused on Valve games. It’s interesting that they’re Valve split the figure license between NECA and 3A Toys – NECA has 7-inch scale and 3A has 12-inch. The Portal 2 robots are an example of figures that will be available in both scales. With Team Fortress 2, NECA has a broader assortment.

Fans of Playmates’ World of Springfield figures get a new assortment of Simpsons, as NECA has partnered with Fox on a line of 25 of the most iconic guest stars to celebrate 25 seasons of the long-running series. [/Ron]
