NYCC 2013: Mattypalooza Booth Updates

Our video update of the Mattypalooza panel at New York Comic-Con is coming up. In the meantime, here’s some quick pics of Mattel’s booth after the panel.

The DC Universe Classics sub lives – kind of. Doomsday is an SDCC exclusive – kind of. Total Heroes will satisfy fans with Mattycollector offerings – kind of. I’ll try to be a glass half full guy from now on – kind of. For Masters of the Universe Classics, it’s Extendar and Flogg steaming up the display cabinets. Toy Guru is holding firm on the no Unnamed One reveal until he shows up on your doorstep (if you subbed!)

To get you the pics you want as fast as I can, I’m hooking you into my Instagram feed. If you’re on Instagram, follow me at afpron – that’s for AFP Ron, not AF Pron :). Stay tuned for better pictures soon.

NYCC 2013: Hasbro Transformers Construct-Bots Roll Out in Force for Holidays

Construct-Bots logo

If you weren’t convinced at San Diego Comic-Con that Construct-Bots were going to be the driving force for the Transformers line this year, maybe this slew of product imagery will. There’s a ton of them coming out for the holidays, including new Beast Hunters-themed figures.

NYCC 2013: Hasbro Transformers Generations Optimus Prime Leader Scale Reveal

Hasbro NYCC Transformers Reveals

If you were hoping for a lot of Transformers reveals from last night’s Hasbro pre-NYCC party, I hate to disappoint you. For their traditional lines, they put out a Generation Leader scale Optimus Prime.

NYCC 2013: Pop Culture Shock Collectibles Masters of the Universe, Street Fighter, and More

NYCC 2013 - Pop Culture Shock Collectibles (1 of 10)

I didn’t have a plan when I got on the floor at New York Comic Con yesterday, but I lucked out and ran right into the display area for Pop Culture Shock Collectibles. Jerry Macaluso has carved out a nice niche of high-end collectibles, including statues, busts, and mixed media sculpture. Unfortunately for me, it’s way out of my budget.

NYCC 2013: Mattel DC Comics Multiverse – Batman and Superman Movies Wave

NYCC 2013 - Mattel DC Multiverse - Movie Wave (3 of 26)

For as long as there’s been Batman and Superman figures, collectors have been asking for figures from the classic Michael Keaton Batman and Christopher Reeve Superman films. After the Nolan-verse Batman and Man of Steel Movie Masters, I know collectors were hoping for the expansion of that line, and were further encouraged by the Batman 1966 Classic TV Series figures.

So you can imagine my surprise when Mattel decided to introduce from the Keaton and Reeve movies, but choose to do it in the DC Comics Multiverse 3.75-inch line. And while I think generally speaking, the figures look decent for ones in the small scale, I struggle to shake off the notion that this is not a friendly move towards collectors who supported the movie and TV figures in the existing 6-inch scale.
