Will the Masters of the Universe Classics Icer Get a Cool Reception?

After Mattel revealed that Clamp Champ will not have any figures left over for “day of” sales, many cherry-pickers (and some Club Eternia subscribers, too) decried Mattel’s perceived continued push to get collectors to subscribe or miss out. Now that they’ve revealed packaged pics of Icer, the first in the six figure Filmation subscription, will they get more flack? Icer will have some figures available for day of sales. The main difference? Clamp Champ was one of the original figures in the vintage Masters of the Universe line, while Icer was not.

I think there’s little point to try to read anything into production levels for the first couple of Filmation figures. They sold the subs in February, so at least for Icer they probably had to make an educated guess on how many figures to make. But as they can factor in the number of Club Filmation subscribers, I believe they will reduce the number of extras. Mattel has shown that they don’t want to risk carrying extra inventory – so let’s see if we have day of sales inventory for the rest of the Filmation line.

The Filmation subscription has begun! Icer, our premier figure in the 6 month 2013 Club Filmation subscription has begun! Icer ships in July to all Club Filmation sub holders with additional small quantities available for day of sales. Note Icer does not ship to Club Eternia members. Club Filmation was a separate purchase back in Feb. with one new Filmation character each month (from either the classic He-Man and Princess of Power animated shows!) July through December 2013.

Entertainment Earth Reveals Second Star Wars Black Series Greedo Production Update

Last week, Entertainment Earth provided their first of four weekly installments of the production process for Greedo – the first of Hasbro’s Star Wars Black Series wave 2 figures that’s been revealed. This week we get a closer look at some of the painstaking work during design. An early 3D rendering of the action figure is marked up with feedback from the Hasbro design team – no detail has been overlooked.

Be sure to revisit last week’s update, where you can see how this feedback was realized in Greedo’s blaster, holster, and hands. And if you still haven’t, you can pre-order Star Wars Black Series wave one.

The Caped Crusader (a Batman stand-in with an uncanny resemblance to a 1960’s Adam West) and his trusted Batmobile were on hand at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in New York City’s Times Square to promote the launch of its new Mez-Itz line for the 1966 Batman Classic TV Series. Hagop from Constume Contumely was there and snapped these pics for AFP.

Diamond Select Toys Reveals Exclusive Marvel Select Iron Man 3 Battle-Damaged Mark 42 and Iron Patriot

Marvel Select Exclusive Iron Patriot and BD Mark 42 2 Marvel Select Exclusive Iron Patriot and BD Mark 42 1

I was kind of hoping the just-revealed new figure from Diamond Select Toys’ Iron Man 3 Marvel Select line would be some sort of Pepper Potts figure. After all, they wouldn’t have to change anything about the Mark 42 armor except to give it an alternate Gwyneth Paltrow head sculpt, right? (Sorry, spoiler!) Instead, we get a battle-damaged variant – a predictable but likely a highly-desired choice. If you had been wondering why DST made a War Machine figure when that version of the armor didn’t appear in the movie, DST Chuck revealed in the latest Ask DST that they often start work on a movie line before the movie is done. In the case of Iron Man 3, they had an early script that featured War Machine before the Iron Patriot re-deco.

The new Mark 42 and the Iron Patriot will be exclusive to Disney Stores and online outlets DisneyStore.com and MarvelStore.com next month.

Play Imaginative to Re-Release Jim Lee Super Alloy Batman at SDCC

Play Imaginative Event Exclusive Super Alloy Batman 1

Last fall, we saw Play Imaginative release an exclusive “special edition” 1/6 scale, diecast Batman at the Singapore Toy, Game, and Comic Convention. While the STGCC version of the Jim Lee-styled New 52 Batman has a glossy version, eventually specialty retailers like BigBadToyStore imported a matte version of the figure.

Now, with a New 52 Superman in the works, Play Imaginative is re-releasing an “event exclusive” edition of Batman. This looks to have the original glossy finish, all the accessories of the other versions, and an extra, angry head sculpt. The packaging looks to be identical to the special edition with the exception of a new special edition sticker. No word on cost yet, but I’ll see if I can find out.
