AFP Hasbro G.I. JOE Q&A for 1/15/10

The Hasbro JOE team is back with another round of Q&A.  Thanks to Ray from the Fwoosh for these questions.

1. Hypothetical question… If the ROC movie hadn’t existed would you have pretty much stopped the 25th line anyway and rebranded into a new line, or would it have kept going untouched?

Hypothetically, we may have developed a new theme as we strive to continuously keep the brand fresh and relevant.

2. Have you ever considered doing modern updates of monster type Joes like the Bio-Viper, Monstro-Viper – because the customs you had on display of those were awesome.

[Pics courtesy of the Hasbro JoeCon 2009 coverage by ItsAllTrue.Net – thanks Noisy!]

Great question! This is something we find very exciting and are looking into it, although they may not look exactly like the customs – we may use cues from them as inspiration for future planning.

3. What was the reasoning behind the new Snowcat’s paintjob? As opposed to the original look.

We aim to keep the line fresh and offer cool new looks where possible.

Masters of the Universe Classics Adora, Battle Armor He-Man, and More on Sale January 15

I know I keep saying that I want Mattel and Digital River to give us the ability to combine our Club Eternia purchases with  our other purchases, because I’m really tired of the multiple shipping charges.  So let me try this another way – how many people didn’t pick up Club Eternia because they didn’t want to get penalized?  How many Club Eternia members aren’t buying bonus figures or figures from other lines because of it?

Anyways, I’m kind of stuck again this month, because Battle Armor He-Man is *the* He-Man from my youth, and he’s an excellent bonus figure for this month.  Between him, a reissued Beast Man, and a first ever Adora figure, January is turning out to be a great month to jump into MOTU Classics.  With Trap Jaw, Battle Cat, a reissued Man-At-Arms coming next month, that would be a pretty good start for new collectors.  UPDATE – Mattel also announced that the second allotment of the Skeletor reissue will be available in late January.

Harvey Dent from The Dark Knight, and a 1:24 scale Doc from Cars round out the lineup for the MattyCollector.com sale day Friday.  Here’s the link to the bundled product page for January – you may have to refresh you browser if it shows up blank at first.

First Look – DC Universe Classics Dr. Mid-Nite – TheFwoosh.com

I love DC Universe Classics, so don’t hate me when I say that sometimes it feels like these toys are coming out too fast.  It feels like I just got wave 11, and wave 12 is right on its heels.  DisThunder from the Fwoosh gives us a quick first look at Dr. Mid-Nite.  I can’t wait to add him to my JSA / Earth 2 shelf!

One of the things about Mid-Nite I’ve always liked is the clean yet striking look of his golden age costume. In fact, it was a deciding factor on whether I liked Pieter or not as well. There’s some really clean transitions here, the glove and boot-lines in particular, and some very good choices in color. Whereas guys like Commander Steel come off very metallic and glossy, Mid-Nite has nice dulled tones, the only bright spots his crescent moon clasps and his goggles- the latter having just a hint of metallic paint.

Watch Marvel Super Heroes: What The–?! Siege Promo

Another timely MSH: What The–?! short from the guys at Marvel – the Hood custom looks just like the one shown at the Hasbro booth at San Diego Comic-Con last year, and I admit I would like a figure of the Iron Patriot with an interchangeable Norman Osborne head.

Check out a short but special “Marvel Super Heroes: What The–?! ” SIEGE Promo featuring the Cabal!

With the weight of the past few months hanging over him, why has Norman Osborn gathered his Cabal of The Hood, Loki and Taskmaster together in Avengers Tower for an ominous meeting? We’re not sure, but we do know this Marvel Super Heroes: What The–?! Siege promo has nothing to do with reality and everything to do with hilarity!

First Look – Masters of the Universe Classics Trap Jaw – TheFwoosh.com

Here’s another Masters of the Universe Classics first look at the Fwoosh, this time of Trap Jaw, due in February.  Just based on the pictures, I am pretty sure Trap Jaw (and Kronis) will displace Tri-Klops as the top villain in my MOTUC collection.  And with Battle Armor He-Man coming this month, I think Man-At-Arms will have some worthy competition on the hero side.  Not a bad start to MOTUC in 2010!

Now, Kronis is pretty cool for an intergalactic bounty hunter, but one horrible, disfiguring fight later, and TRAP JAW is just so much cooler. Like his MOTUC brethren that came before him, this figure expands on every little detail that made the original great, then adds things to make it even better.

I will start with the head – Trap Jaw is positively batpoopy crazy. His eyes are insane, wide open, bright yellow with this tiniest pupils. He is not to be messed with. Then there is the (fully articulated) jaw. This one simple point of articulation makes Trap Jaw so expressive. Depending oh how it is positioned, he can go from scary-mean, to crazy to almost cutely mischievous grin. You can also see the mess of a mouth he has left behind that metal mandible, no detail left unturned by the Four Horsemen.
