MattyCollector Early Access Open for May Sale – Will Spirit of Hordak Frustrate Fans?

MattyCollector.com May Sale

Toy Guru promised to make Early Access worthwhile to subscribers, and as it opens this morning I wonder if he it’s working out in practice. For one, there have been a couple of last minute changes – sometimes the emails and news updates on the site are inconsistent. Like this month, the email referenced the Masters of the Universe Classics Evil-Lyn, but at the last minute they’ve switched to Stinkor. And, for the most part, Early Access has been limited to older MOTUC figures that long-time collectors already have.

Of course, that changed when the convention exclusive MOTUC Strobo came and went in Early Access in about five minutes, causing lots of subscribers to scream bloody murder. And chances are good that we’re heading for another one of those this morning.

Update: Early Access got a late start. Spirit of Hordak was available for about 5 minutes – sold out now. By the clock on my laptop he was up for grabs from 8:13 – 8:18AM PST. Let us know if you were able to pick one up!

ThreeA Toys Valve Portal 2 P-body Preview

When 3A Toys picked up a license from Valve, the video game developers for hit franchises like Counter Strike, Team Fortress, and Left 4 Dead, my mind reeled with the possibilities. After all, there are a lot of synergies – army men and zombies? When the first Valve-related products came out, the Team Fortress Sandvich and the Portal Companion Square (eBay links), I was hoping for more. Granted, those items were both extremely popular, but didn’t feel like they were leveraging all that 3A could do.

That changes with the upcoming Portal 2 Atlas P-body figures. These two are within another of 3A’s wheelhouses – robots – and really have a wow factor to them. They’re 1/6 scale figures, are fully loaded with insane articulation, LED lights, and handheld Portal generators. No prices yet, but I’m betting these will sell like gangbusters.

WebSwipe: New DC Collectibles Video Game Figures and Statues, Including the Best Arkham Batman Yet – New York Post

DCC has revealed some new video game collectibles through the New York Post, and one in particular is just awesome. It’s the Arkham Origins Batman. I have really enjoyed the Arkham series of Batman games but the design and figures for Batman fell a little flat off of the big screen TV. The nearest I came to buying one was the Batman from DCC Arkham wave 4 – it’s the same design as the others, but it’s got the super-poseable articulation scheme of the 4-inch DCC figures.

So while I haven’t paid much attention to the design for the new Origins game, if it’s anything like this figure then I think they’ve nailed it for this game. My understanding is that Gentle Giant had its hand in this new Batman.

FIRST LOOK: DC’s latest video-game action figures and statues

The great thing about video games these days is you get to reach out and touch the characters. And DC Collectibles knows it.

Arkham Origins BatmanArkham Origins Black MaskInfinite Crisis MOBA Atomic Age Wonder WomanInfinite Crisis MOBA Nightmare Batman

Given the popularity of the “Batman: Arkham Asylum,” “Batman: Arkham City” and “Injustice: Gods Among Us” action-figure lines, the company is rolling out two new series this fall – and Post Game Report has the exclusive, first look.

Closest to my heart (and wallet) are action figures from the hotly anticipated “Batman: Arkham Origins” video game. Batman gets a whole new outfit in the prequel and we get the frightening and dapper Black Mask to boot. They’re due out in October and will be in the typical 6.75” scale. They’ll be about 25 clams each.

On the higher end, however, are statues based on the upcoming “Infinite Crisis” free-to-play MOBA game which will feature different versions of the DC stable of characters.

There’s Nightmare Batman (reminiscent of artist Kelley Jones’ depiction of the Dark Knight) and what just might be the most badass Amazon warrior I’ve ever seen – the chainsaw-wielding Atomic Age Wonder Woman. Each runs about $125, so these are really for the hardcore collector. Batman is due out in September, Wonder Woman in November.

2013 SDCC Comet Warriors New 52 Shazam Video

Mattel covers all the burning questions you might have about two of its exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con this year – the Masters of the Universe Classics Comet Brothers, featuring Rokkon and Stonedar, and the DC Universe Classics New 52 Shazam, aka Captain Marvel.

Toy Guru also hits on some that you might not want to know the answers, such as: how do Rokkon and Stonedar poop when in rock form? Answer: convenient butt flap. And: is Captain Marvel’s hood really that big? Answer: yes, but thankfully it’s removable.
