Bazinga! LEGO Reveals The Big Bang Theory Playset

We built a wall (we built the pyramids)… and pretty soon we’ll be able to build Leonard and Sheldon’s living room from The Big Bang Theory! This playset, which will include minifigures of all seven of the growing ensemble cast, is the latest set to come from LEGO Ideas (formerly CUUSOO).

That’s the official idea-generating community that lets folks like you and me submit new product proposals – if enough of the community supports it, LEGO can decide to produce it. LEGO Ideas is how that LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean made it to shelves.

SDCC 2015: Mattycollector Exclusives Pre-Order Early Access Starts Today

Mattycollector SDCC 2015 voucher pre-order

If you’re attending San Diego Comic-Con and are interested in the Mattycollector exclusives, Early Access for Mattel’s SDCC exclusives will open to Club Eternia subscribers at 8AM PST this morning. You’ll be able to pre-order exclusives from Masters of the Universe Classics, Ghostbusters, Monster / Ever After High, and more. You’ll get a voucher which you take to the show and exchange for your exclusives at the Torrey Pines room at the Marriot San Diego Hotel and Marina, which is next door to the Convention Center.

While I’m not a fan of having to leave the floor to pick up more stuff to lug back, it’s generally preferable to taking your chances at the Matty booth on the floor – the lines can get long, and the more popular items do sell out. In the past, that’s been the Monster High stuff, but you can never really be sure what will be hot. I’m thinking the Hover Robots.

I’m happy to be heading back to SDCC this year, but Mattel’s exclusives offer some melancholy – this will be the first year since I’ve been going that Mattel hasn’t had a 6-inch scaled DC exclusive in collaboration with the Four Horsemen. I’m still holding onto the torch that Mattel will find a way to bring back DC Universe Classics. I know, I know.

Hot Toys Reveals Star Wars: A New Hope Luke Skywalker

Hot Toys Star Wars A New Hope Luke Skywalker 01

Maybe I need a #footlongfriday hashtag. Earlier today we had two Mortal Kombat 1/6 scale reveals from WorldBox and Mezco, and here we are with the latest Hot Toys announcement for Star Wars. Previously, they had teased the Skywalker twins, Luke and Leia. Standard operating procedure for the Hot Toys tease is to not show off the head sculpt – and with such iconic characters you end up wondering how well they can capture their likenesses.

In Luke’s case, I think the Mark Hamill likeness is close enough to bullseye womp rats in your T-16 back home. As you’d expect from Hot Toys, Skywalker comes with a ton of accessories, arguably most importantly an LED-lighted lightsaber. (You could argue that a separate hairpiece just to accommodate that wide-brimmed gardening hat is a bit much.) You should be able to pre-order the exclusive version of the Hot Toys Luke Skywalker from Sideshow Collectibles – it will come with a Stormtrooper belt with grappling hook, communicator, and blaster rifle. Awkward sister-kissing sold separately.

Mezco Announces 12-Inch Mortal Kombat X Sub-Zero and Scorpion

Pre-order available now for December delivery

Mezco Mortal Kombat X 12-inch Sub-Zero and Scorpion

A couple years ago, 1/6 scale was devoid of any officially-licensed Mortal Kombat figures – today it’s got multiple licensees. We just posted about WorldBox’s Scorpion, the second of their MK ninjas after Sub-Zero. Next up are Mezco’s announcements of both ninjas from Mortal Kombat X.

While both manufacturers are playing in 1/6 scale, their price points will delineate them into separate target markets. World Box’s figures should be in the $150 range, making them relatively cheap but comparable to Hot Toys, with more accessories, clothing apps, and more paint apps. Mezco’s Sub-Zero and Scorpion figures are available to pre-order at $36 each, which we could imagine an all-plastic and ABS line like Marvel Legends Icons would cost, if they were still being sold.

Mezco is leveraging its (presumably) digital sculpts for Mortal Kombat X across 3.75-inch, 6-inch, and 12-inch scales. So if you’re a fan of these ninjas in the smaller scales, you’ll know what to expect from these guys, come December. It has begun!

Get Over Here! – WorldBox Reveals Mortal Kombat Scorpion

WorldBox Mortal Kombat Scorpion

I picked up the WorldBox Mortal Kombat Sub-Zero, their first figure in the line, and have been very pleased with it. But Sub-Zero has been very lonely… until now. They’ve just revealed the bad-ass ninja himself, Scorpion.

Like Sub-Zero, Scorpion comes loaded with accessories. He’s got three different head sculpts – a regular masked head, his skull, and a fatality-inflicted Kung Lao head. (I had skipped the Kung Lao release, but now that I know that I can split his head open, maybe it’s time to pick him up!) He’s got a couple of pairs of hands, so he can wield his twin swords or throw his kusarigama, aka harpoon. He also comes with some fireballs and blood effects.

I haven’t seen him up for pre-order yet, but when I do… GET OVER HERE!
