Reminder – Masters of the Universe Classics Optikk, Tytus, Mer-Man and More On Sale May 17

This Monday may be another fun day at MattyCollector.com. Six separate figures (which can be purchased on the bundle page for the month) will be on sale:

  • Masters of the Universe Classics Optikk – the first character from the New Adventures of He-Man is the Club Eternia figure for the month
  • Masters of the Universe Classics Tytus – the fighting giant is the over-sized bonus figure
  • Masters of the Universe Classics Mer-Man – this will be his first re-issue
  • The Dark Knight Two Face – at long last, if you’re looking to complete your collection of Dark Knight Movie Masters, Two-Face is the last lead character to get a figure – you don’t count Rachel Dawes, do you?
  • Retro-Action DC Super-Heroes Green Lantern
  • Ghostbusters Walter Peck

I’m wondering how Tytus will do – while he looks great, I think a lot of people expected more articulation for a $40 figure. But who am I kidding? He’ll still sell out. Good luck on Monday!

AFP Ask Matty Round-Up for 4/2/10 – the Real Deal

Some people sure got heated in their reaction to Toy Guru’s Magic 8-Ball April Fool’s prank yesterday. Did you really think he would leave us hanging? He’s supposed to be on vacation, but he still took the time to send us the real answers for this session. Thanks to Toy Guru and Mattel!

1. This may be a little early, but Raven is on my mind with Collect & Connect Trigon coming soon. Is Mattel planning to do another Fan’s Choice for DC Universe Classics in conjunction with Toyfare this year? And with respect to runner-ups from the prior votes, are any of those characters on the table for the upcoming year?

AFP Ask Matty Round-Up for 4/1/10

Please find below the bi-monthly answers to your “Ask Mattel” questions.  Scott is currently out of the office but asked us to provide answers on his behalf.  We know he is the “Toy Guru” and an expert on all things Matty Collector so to keep the same quality of answers you’re readers are used to, we consulted with an answer expert – please go ahead and post these as the official Mattel answers.  You can go ahead and forward your April 15th questions to Scott directly.

Sometimes, I don’t know why we bother with these Q&A sessions. All we ever get are these non-answers, session after session after session. And even though we are getting our answers from someone else this go around, it’s just more of the same.

Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Series 3 Revealed

We learned at Toy Fair that the second series of Retro-Action DC Super Heroes would include Batman (masked and unmasked), Two-Face, Aquaman, and Black Manta. I read on Raving Toy Maniac this morning that Amazon has the 3rd series listed – if these Retro DC Super Heroes listings on Amazon are correct, series 3 will include:

  • Wonder Woman
  • Cheetah
  • Flash
  • Captain Cold

Toy Fair 2010 – Interview with Mattel’s Scott Neitlich (Toy Guru), Part 2

Scott Neitlich, Mattel’s Associate Brand Manager for its collector-oriented lines, was kind enough to sit down with Hagop (my tag team partner from the Fwoosh) and me for a catch-up session following the Mattel Collectors Preview.

This is the second part of the interview – I wanted to title the article “Toy Guru Announces Jitsu” but then common sense prevailed.  Part one of the interview is here.

H: Let’s go over what’s in store this year for Masters of the Universe.

TG: The line is composed of 12 monthly figures, 4 quarterly figures (although there might only be 3 this year) but ideally 4 standard 6” quarterly figures, and then 4 over-sized figures which could range from $30-$60 depending on how big they are. So Battlecat was the first, Tytus will be the second, and then Gy-Gor will be the third.
