SDCC 2014: Mattel and WWE: Over-the-Top-Action! – Video

Here’s the first of a few videos of panels from San Diego Comic-Con. From Thursday morning, here’s the Mattel and WWE panel, featuring Michael Cole hosting Daniel Bryan, Paul Heyman, and the immortal Hulk Hogan!

Mattel’s WWE team takes us through upcoming action figure releases, including the first ever Hulk Hogan, Razor Ramon, and Doink the Clown in the Mattel era of WWE. But you can’t miss the Q&A section that includes special appearances from the “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart and Sting, introducing his first WWE action figure ever.

SDCC 2014: Masters of the Universe Classics Starts 2015 Strong, But Future Uncertain

SDCC 2014 Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics 2015

Toy Guru made it clear when he kicked off their Mattypalooza presentation with a Masters of the Universe Classics video with the message that all toy lines must end (an homage to the Game of Thrones marketing campaign for the past season). I suppose that’s Mattel’s way to drive subscriptions for Club Eternia for 2015, now billed as the last year for MOTUC and Four Horseman figures.

And they certainly loaded up the sub with extra goodness in the first quarter of 2015, in case there are people still on the fence to subscribe. It’s fan favorite Lizard Man from the Filmation series, Ninjor from the vintage line, and Huntara from last year’s SDCC fan vote. The Club Eternia exclusive is Oo-larr, the He-Man from the original mini-comic – and to make this extra tempting, the exclusive will include an extra He-Man head sculpt in the vintage style.

You can see all this and more in our SDCC 2014 Masters of the Universe Classics album.

SDCC 2014: Hasbro Marvel Legends Build-a-Figure Plans for Avengers and Spider-Man in 2015

SDCC 2014 Hasbro Marvel Legends Avengers 2015 (Saturday)

Here’s a quick update from the Hasbro booth, where the Marvel team has made another update to the figures in the Avengers display for 2015. The reason for the musical chairs with Thor, Sentry, Iron Fist, and Hawkeye is simply because they’ve had trouble fitting all the figures into the display. Current plan – all figures are part of Wave 1 for 2015.

In addition, they are planning on a variant Build-a-Figure, via running case pack changes like they did with Arnim Zola / Red Skull earlier in the relaunch of Legends. In this case, Odin’s head and arms will be changed for the head and arms of King Thor. Krakadoooom! Keep your fingers crossed that this actually makes it to retail shelves.

Hasbro also said that there are definitely more figures in the Spidey wave, but aren’t ready to reveal them. Hobgoblin, who I learned was from the Big Time arc, will be the BAF for this wave. As always, you can check out the pics in our SDCC 2014 Marvel Legends album. Excelsior!

SDCC 2014: Hasbro Reveals Marvel Legends Spider-Man Figures for 2015

SDCC 2014 Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2015

(Apologies – connectivity problems in our hotel hampered our updates tonight, and considering how much we’re paying it’s a complete travesty. But after getting it sorted out I wanted to get at least this update out before sleep.)

The Hasbro Marvel team put out four new figures in the spot designated for the Marvel Legends Spider-Man wave for 2015. I’m not sure if this constitutes the full wave, but we’ve got Spider-Girl (Mayday Parker from an alternate universe), a Hobgoblin that I’m not familiar with, a Spider-Man decked out with accessories, and an updated Spidey 2099. We’ve got more pics of the Spideys in our Marvel Legends album.

SDCC 2014: DC Collectibles Arrow, Arkham Knights, and More

SDCC 2014 DC Collectibles Arrow

I posted our pics of the Batman: The Animated Series last night, but DC Collectibles has a lot more in store for fans. While the BTAS figures harken back to the past era of animated shows from DC, the remainder of the DC Collectibles product line focuses on the present. Fans of Arrow and the upcoming spin-off for the Flash will be happy that DCC is doubled down – they’re betting that Flash is going to be as big a hit as Green Arrow and have a figure in the works. Black Canary, Deathstroke, and more versions of Arrow are coming too.

Also keeping with the modern theme, DCC is behind the upcoming Arkham Knights video game. They showed off four figures from the game, including a gorgeous Harley Quinn. Expect more artist-specific lines too, covering recent comic events. And of course, they’ve got New 52 and more DC bombshell statues on the way.
