Square Enix is totally killing it when it comes to action figures for video games. With licenses for Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Mass Effect 3, Tekken, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Tomb Raider, Hitman, Kingdom Hearts, Arkham Asylum, and more, they’re marking their territory for super-articulated, 8-inch scale premium figures.

But watch out – they’re also making the move from the little screen to the big one. It was a natural jump from properties like Bayonetta to Cowboy Bebop, but they also teased the license for Superman: Man of Steel. It seems a more daunting task to take on the likeness of a real person than a computer generated image. I can’t wait to see what they do with it.

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 – Square Enix Play Arts Kai Halo, Street Fighter, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and More

Halo%20(4)%20(1280x852)

Square Enix is a global media and entertainment company known primarily for its video games, but to me they’re the toy company that the other toy companies should dread if they share licenses. Because when you’re stacked up against Square Enix’s Play Arts Kai line of figures, you’re going to have a hard time outdoing them.

Yeah, these figures are expensive and in an oddball 8-inch scale, but they are also the complete package – extremely detailed sculpts with great paint apps and super articulation to boot. And with shared licenses such as Halo: Reach, Street Fighter, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and more, these will be impossible to ignore.

Toy Fair 2011 – Square Enix

Square Enix 08.jpg

Considering that Square Enix had one of my favorite displays at Toy Fair, there’s really no excuse for these pics to have sat on my hard drive for this long. I must have just overlooked not posting them back in February. But today, I was thinking about how much I wished SOTA Toys was still making Street Fighter action figures when I remembered the awesomeness of the prototypes that Square Enix had on display for Street Fighter in their Play Arts Kai line. With their other licenses, including Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, and more, Square Enix has really come on strong in the video game segment for action figures.

Street Fighter ‘Lightning Blanka’ resin statue PROTOTYPE auction for Haiti Relief effort!!

In lieu of the terrible events in Haiti, SOTA Toys has decided to auction off a prototype statue (no reserve!), with ALL profits to be donated to the Red Cross relief effort. This one-off piece, affectionately known as “Lightning Blanka,” is a clear resin statue tinted in blue with lightning arcs painted over the body depicting the character Blanka from the renowned video game series Street Fighter, made by CAPCOM.

It features the same pose as the statue SOTA Toys manufactured and released in 2007, however this particular piece is a concept prototype that was produced but has never gone into production. And after this auction, it never will. As a part of this auction, the winner will receive a certificate of authenticity as well as free shipping to anywhere he or she desires.
