Mattel posted a general update for its collector lines.  It’s quite long, so I’ll summarize it here.

  • DC Universe Classics wave 11 will be sold on MattyCollector.com in master cases of 8 (both Steppenwolves, regular Deadman), but may not be until after the holidays
  • 12-inch General Zod and 8-inch Green Arrow are coming on December 15
  • New JLU 3-packs should be hitting Target in force before the holidays
  • Select Avatar figures on MattyCollector starting December 1
  • WWE is coming January 1 (yes, we know!)
  • Masters of the Universe Classics Moss Man sample will be posted as soon as the “fur” color is right (I thought it was moss :-))
  • Mattel is working on Battle Cat packaging – currently his mask is falling off in package (a box with blister back)
  • Evil Lyn will be the April 2010 figure, and will be featured in Toy Fare #150, the 2010 preview issue
  • More Ghostbusters are planned, but it might not be until San Diego Comic-Con 2010 until we get all the news

Also, don’t forget – it’s sale day on MattyCollector.com on Monday at Noon Eastern.  I’ll be picking up a Masters of the Universe Scareglow via my subscription, and will probably pick up a couple DC Universe Classics Color of Fear 2-packs separately.

Gee, Mattel, can you and Digital River *please* work on finding a way to combine extra orders with the subscriptions?  Don’t penalize your loyal customers.

Mattel WWE Basic Series 1

WWE Basic Series 1

No, it’s not January 1 yet, but it might be close enough for one retailer Down Under.  Australian Fwoosher SWH happened across a fresh set of Mattel’s WWE Basic Series 1, just under 8 weeks before the new line is supposed to be released into retail.  He’s graciously let me post his review here, and it answers a whole ton of the burning questions.

Without further ado, here’s SWH with his review of Mattel’s new Basic line for WWE!

Here are the latest questions and answers from Mattel. Thanks to Mattel and Toy Guru!

World Wrestling Entertainment

1. Nice to see some info and pics of the upcoming WWE lines. Can you highlight the differences between the Basic and Elite Collections? Are the main differences in the amount of articulation? Are the scales compatible between both lines?

The WWE basic and Elite figures are approximately seven-inch figures are created in “Superstar scale,” assuring accuracy in body-type differential across the “Monday Night Raw,” “Friday Night SmackDown” and “ECW” rosters. Pay-Per-View themed basic figures will also be available throughout the year. The Elite Figures feature 26 points of articulation and authentic ring attire such as masks, armbands and costumes. For the first time ever, each figure in both lines come with a figure stand and name placard.

Mattel WWE Update

Mattel has at long last released information on its upcoming World Wrestling Entertainment product lines, due to launch January 1st next year. WWE will be a huge franchise for Mattel – some of the early reports have said the plan is to release over 100 figures in 2010, just for the Basic line, which should retail for $9.99 each.

I am most interested in the Elite Collection, which features additional points of articulation, like ab crunches and ball-jointed hips.  Elite Collection figures should retail for $14.99 each.  We’ll hope to have more information in the next round of Ask Matty.

Toys R Us $5 Off Purchase of $25 Coupon – Today Only

To promote its Facebook page, Toys R Us has a special $5 off coupon for purchases of $25 and over on Toysrus.com. This coupon is for today only!  It’s a nice deal, because they also have selected action figures on clearance.

Update – they’ve posted another coupon today, so keep checking back!

I am thinking about using the coupon to get the Honky Tonk Man for almost nothing. The exclusive version is just $6.98. This would be in revenge for our encounter at San Diego Comic-Con. VeeBee and I found him standing alone in the aisles and asked him to take a picture with us – we’re both old school wrasslin’ fans. He put his arm around VeeBee and then asked for $20. Well, I’m gonna buy you for $1.98! Take that, Honky Tonk!

We have added an exclusive facebook $5 off coupon on any purchase of $25 on Toysrus.com to the coupon tab on our facebook homepage. Happy shopping!
