WebSwipe: San Diego Comic-Con 2013 Cosplay Gallery

The Comic-Con 2013 Cosplay Gallery

One thing I haven’t done in a while is take pictures of booth babes and cosplayers at SDCC. Frankly, there’s just so many of them at the big show that I’d never get where I needed to be if I was shooting them all.

Luckily, Norman Chan faced no such predicament. He’s posted an SDCC 2013 Cosplay Gallery with over 850 pics from this year’s Con. It’s jam-packed with really excellent portraits. Enjoy!

SDCC 2013: Sideshow Collectibles Instapics

Sideshow collage

SDCC is pretty busy, and I don’t often have enough time to just walk around and look at stuff. The Sideshow booth is one location where I definitely love to spend time just soaking it all in. I don’t usually take pictures of the larger items with my “real” camera – it’s somewhat torturous because there’s so much goodness there, and I would just be killing myself processing pictures of stuff that is way beyond my means to collect. (I did capture most of the Hot Toys displays at Sideshow in an earlier post.)

Still, I couldn’t resist snapping some shots with my phone camera. With no polarizing filter, it’s impossible to get a shot of the glass displays without getting some reflection of lights or other things in the shot. And I guess for these pictures, the glare and reflections are part of the fun.

Site Maintenance this Weekend – 7/26 to 7/28

some assembly required

We’ve got some long overdue upgrades to take care of, but they’ll require some intermittent downtime while I install them. It’s nothing spectacular – just some back-end stuff – so the site will come back looking just as pretty (or ugly, that’s really subject to your opinion) as ever. I plan to start sometime tonight. If all goes well, we’ll be back up tomorrow morning.

Any suggestions on improving the site? Let us know. AFP will still be available on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, so in case something earth-shattering comes up, hit us up there. Have a great weekend!

MattyCollector Subscriptions and Pre-Order Push – So it Begins, So it Ends?

It’s just been a week since the Mattypalooza panel at San Diego Comic-Con, but Mattel has already alerted fans that the 2014 subscriptions and the Ecto-1 pre-order are “quite below” expectations, despite them opening up the subscriptions several weeks early. Call it scare tactics, sales and marketing, or just the plain unvarnished truth – Toy Guru is once again warning fans that pre-orders for the Club Eternia and Club Infinite Earths subscriptions and the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 pre-order have to hit their minimums or they’re not happening.

And while, thank Grodd, they’ve replaced the thermometer graphics this year with product silhouettes, the picture they paint right now is pretty daunting. There’s under three weeks to go to the August 19 deadline. Continue reading “MattyCollector Subscriptions and Pre-Order Push – So it Begins, So it Ends?”
