Hot Toys Iron Man Mark VII Disassembled

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark VII Disassembled

Ever wondered how many parts are required to make a Hot Toys Iron Man figure? This is an extremely cool picture of an Avengers Iron Man Mark VII figure in its pre-assembled state, with its more than 300 individual parts. One piece that’s missing though is the head sculpt of RDJ – I guess a disembodied head might be a bit macabre.

Don’t worry – if you get this figure (you can still pre-order the Iron Man Mark VII from Sideshow with expected delivery in May) you won’t have to build it yourself, although I’m sure there are some model builders out there who would relish the challenge. This exploded view of the figure is just a display piece at the Iron Man 3 Hot Toys Collectible Figurines Exhibit at Action City in Singapore. If you happen to be close by, the exhibit is open through May 5th.

Mattel Announces San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive Masters of the Universe Classics Rokkon & Stonedar 2-Pack

Photographer Dennis Stylist Susan

Mattel has started off their reveals of their SDCC 2013 exclusives with a bang – with fan favorites Rokkon and Stonedar in a Masters of the Universe Classics 2-pack. I think last year’s Vykron appealed to a subset of hardcore MOTU fans, since he and his Space and Tank alternate forms were never actual toy releases or featured in any of the animated shows. The Comet Warriors should have a broader appeal, despite their late appearance in the vintage Masters of the Universe line.

Mattel is revealing two exclusives a day this week (the second is a Hot Wheels Battlestar Galactica Cylon Raider), so I think we may see another MOTUC exclusive before the week is out.

ThreeA Toys Dead Equine Super Set Pre-Order Starts 9PM EST 4/29

The Blind Cowboy and his horse, Ghost, are back in the Dead Equine Super Set from the 3A Toys Popbot universe. The set is up for pre-order at Bambaland starting at 9PM EST today. This is their second release – the first was a couple years back in a brighter palette. The Blind Cowboy from 2011 had a red poncho, but I’m not sure if there’s anything else different with the new Shadow Slinger release aside from the darker coloring. The horse gets an upgrade with a few more pouches and the classification as a “funeral” horse. In addition, the Dead Equine set will include a sock puppet – like Mr. Bridger that came with the Red Devil Lady Sham, but supposedly a different character.

3A has managed to keep the pre-order price the same for the new release as it was back in 2011 – $270 for the cowboy and horse. I’m not sure if 3A will have the option to buy the Blind Cowboy on his own, like they did last time.

Square Enix Releases Play Arts Kai DC Universe Variant Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern Press Pics

Square Enix Play Arts Kai DC Universe

I had mixed feelings when I saw the variant DC Universe figures from the Square Enix Play Arts Kai line at Toy Fair. Now that Square Enix has released their press pics of the first three figures – Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, my take hasn’t changed. I’m mostly positive on their other DC offerings – the Arkham Asylum / City line has been fantastic, and I will probably be picking up the Dark Knight trilogy figures. The Superman: Man of Steel figures look interesting. But these DC variants will most likely be a cherry picking line for me.

I’m expecting that the articulation on these babies will be just as good as the other figures I’ve picked up, but I’m so-so on the designs. This is the kind of thing I worry about with 3A Toys and their highly-anticipated Marvel line. When you look at iconic characters through the lens of an artist with a distinctive style, there’s a chance that what you see won’t agree with you.

Did You Know Today is Masters of the Universe Day?

Masters of the Universe Day 2013

I had no idea… Seven of my favorite websites have brought back Masters of the Universe Day and I love it. As I’ve learned from the participating sites, Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley so named April 28 wayyyyy back in 1987. True story.

So please stop on by the Magnificent Seven and check out all the MOTU fun! (And don’t be surprised that my favorite of all the great content is Poe’s review of the Masters of the Universe Classics Jitsu.)

Masters of the Universe Day 2013

It’s a special crossover event across seven different Toy Blogs. There’s more info at that link but basically this Sunday, all of these sites will have special MOTU content – reviews, photo shoots etc.

Brought to you by ItsAllTrue, Battlegrip, Preternia, Poe Ghostal, The Epic Review, Hoard World, and DoomKick.

Thanks to DoomKick for the heads-up!
