Hot Toys Reveals First Diecast Figure – Iron Man 3 Iron Patriot

Hot Toys Iron Man 3 Iron Patriot 1

Hot Toys has announced the first in its Diecast line of figures – the Iron Patriot from Iron Man 3. I am not sure whether this line is a competitive response to other diecast 1/6 products, like those of Singapore’s Play Imaginative, or just a natural line extension into an even more premium product. Either way, with increased shipping weight and more expensive materials, I am curious how these will be priced.

The Iron Patriot will have light-up features and a removable face plate revealing Rhodey (with Don Cheadle’s likeness, not yet finalized) but not much else – I wonder if they reduced the number of features to help keep the cost down. We’ll have to wait for pre-orders from Sideshow and others to get the full picture.

Masters of the Universe Classics Jitsu Quick Pics

[instapress tag=”afpjitsu” piccount=”0″ size=”150″ effect=”fancybox”]

I am visiting my parents and had a stowaway – the Masters of the Universe Classics Jitsu. The horse is a souvenir my dad has from his days working in China, and I snapped a quick picture of it with Jitsu. And before long, I had this quick series of shots. Jitsu’s victim is an old Hulk Hogan from way back when Hasbro had the WWF license. I had a bunch of wrestling figures back in the 90s, and my dad asked if he could have one. And wouldn’t you know, he’s kept it in better shape than I have done with my modern day collection.

There’s a certain joy, being unburdened by camera gear and lights – I shot these with my camera phone and the sunlight coming in the window. It reminded me of my younger days, taking the original Jitsu figure out to the backyard and shooting pictures of him with an old hand-me-down 35MM. In a way, that’s what started this all.

First of ThreeA Toys TKLUB Tomorrow Kings, Oroshi 18, Available for Pre-Order on 3/27

OROSHI1web tlklub2013

The first figure in the Tomorrow Kings Klub (aka TKLUB) will be available for pre-order in a week’s time. Assuming it opens up at 9AM Hong Kong time on 3/28, that means a 9PM EST time start in the US. Originally touted as a one strike and you’re out program – once you didn’t buy a figure you would not be able to buy any future club figures – eventually 3A loosened that with an incentive program.

The first incentive is an “Art of TK mook,” which I can only assume is a typo for book. To qualify for the book, you have to buy Oroshi 18 and two more figures – which ones are yet to be revealed. I think I’m in for Oroshi but will wait to see what comes next.

The TKLUB is for 3AA members only – I know a few folks who chose not to re-up this year, but forgot that one of the incentives to sign up for 3AA was this club. We’ll have to see what the order limits are – I know a lot of Legionnaires will want to help each other out, but this has the earmarks of a flipper’s paradise.

Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Mutants

This week, I noticed a lot of auctions for Marvel Legends customs of Marvel’s mutants. Some are glaring omissions in the line while some are updates with new looks – what’s clear is that beyond the Wolverine Legends line that was introduced at Toy Fair, there’s an untapped demand that Hasbro could satisfy with more children of the atom.

Marvel Legends Gladiator

Marvel Legends Gladiator by Cal – alright, so maybe Gladiator from the Shi’ar Empire isn’t actually a mutant, but since he has played a big supporting role in many of the best X-Men stories, I think he counts – what do you think of the Hyperion / Sentry base for him? – ends Mar 20, 2013 18:10:02 PDT

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by! (A power outage at our host delayed the publishing of this week’s edition.)

ThreeA Toys WWRp Euro Defence and Deep Powder Brambles on Sale Now

3A Toys has completed its pre-order of its Adventure Kartel Mumbs, but they’ve added two 1/12 WWRp Brambles at Bambaland – the dual-pistol-wielding Euro Defence and the gatling gun-powered Deep Powder. They’re a bit more expensive than the original WWRp Brambles four years back, but these are two colorways that were popular in 1/6 that never made it to 1/12. Not sure how much longer these will be up, but the last few 1/12 pre-orders were around a couple of days.

The original Bramble release included a Euro Bramble called Daniel that also came with two pistols, and a Frosty Choad winter-themed Bramble that also used the gatling gun, but these count as separate coloways.

Around 12:30 pm Hong Kong time: WWRp Euro Defence Bramble and Deep Powder go up for pre-order at Bambalandstore for 85USD shipped

WWRp Euro Defence Bramble will be shipped with MK2 Bramble handguns, not the Bertie MK2 ones which are shown on the photos above.
