Three A Toys 3AA Membership On Sale Today at 8PM EST

3A Toys’ Gimbat posted a summary of the upcoming 3AA membership for 2013 – for the time-zone challenged, it goes on sale at 8PM EST later today. If you’re a fan of 3A, the membership is a great deal. Because 3A puts out high-end collectibles, they do get pricey. With the 15% discount that comes with membership, I’ve ended up saving more than the cost of the membership each of the past couple of years that I’ve been a part of the 3AA Legion. That’s not even including the value of the exclusive figure that comes with membership.

They’ve also teased a collector’s club for Tomorrow Kings. I think I’ll need more details on what that’s all about. With the cost of these figures, I don’t think I could sign up for anything that locks me into purchasing everything in a given line. Not unless I win the lottery.

Hasbro Marvel Legends 2013 Wave 1 – Group Shot and Packaged Pics

Marvel Legends 2013 - group shot

Marvel Legends 2013 is here, and with your indulgence, I’m going to drop the “(Return of)” label – while the Build-A-Figure has shrunk to mini-proportions, the figures are exceptional. Dare I say that we’re seeing Legends at its best ever?

I’m hard-pressed to come up with a former Legends wave as good as this. Sure, we’ve got extensive re-use, including two completely recycled figures in Wolverine and Archangel (from the most excellent San Diego Comic-Con Uncanny X-Force exclusive 3-pack), but the new decos are awesome on two already great figures. We’ve also got the introduction of two new brawler bodies in Hyperion and Red She-Hulk – my first impressions on both are really favorable. With Ultimate Cap and Protector, we’re getting re-used bodies with some nice add-on parts to make them unique. Of the bunch, Protector is the low point for me, mostly because I’m not a fan of the costume.

And Hit Monkey? For a mini-BAF, he’s pretty damn cool. As a smaller figure, he’s got a couple fewer points of articulation, but you’d hardly notice it – he can hold lots of very dynamic poses. He’s got the new ankles, giving him a lot wider range of stable positions. I think you’ll like the Hit Monkey mini-BAF, even if you hate the character (because he’s the product of hack writer Daniel Way.)

Hasbro Iron Man 3 Marvel Legends Series 1 Line-Up Revealed

Iron Man 3 Marvel Legends Series 1

AFP sponsor BigBadToyStore has revealed the line-up for Iron Man 3 Marvel Legends series 1. At San Diego Comic-Con last July, Hasbro teased us with a single image for an Iron Man wave for Marvel Legends, but I was still surprised at how soon we should be seeing these – BBTS shows them with an estimated arrival date in February. The line-up includes the Classic Horned Iron Man, the Iron Patriot, and the Heroic Age Iron Man. I suspect the horned version will be shortpacked, as BBTS doesn’t have an individual listing for him.

Mattel Reveals Club Black Freighter Watchmen Packaging and Masters of the Universe Classics Snake Face – Video

Watchmen Club Black Freighter Packaging

Rorschach from the DC Comics Watchmen is coming our way on MattyCollector’s January 15 sale as part of the Club Black Freighter subscription, and Toy Guru has just revealed the packaging for it. I think it looks pretty slick, with an outer slip cover and a book-style inner package that looks relatively more friendly for folks who like to play with their action figures and keep the packaging too.

TG also previewed the Masters of the Universe Classics Snake Face, the Snake Man who is scheduled to arrive in April this year. Check out the video for Rorschach and Snake Face, as well as pics of Rorschach and the additional card inserts from his upcoming sales page.

Border Patrol: 1/6 Scale Military Vehicles and Figures – Huge Lot

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

Normally in this column I pick out a handful of customized figures, but this week I found a huge lot of customized 1/6 scale military figures and vehicles. I’ve got a lot of admiration for customizers who venture into vehicles and dioramas, because it takes an extraordinary level of commitment and attention to detail. I noticed an unusual amount of vehicles in my eBay search, including:

I thought at first the 3 listings for the half tracks were dupes, and was surprised when I saw they were all unique, and all with 3 or more figures.

A little more clicking and I found that the seller has 12 different 1/6 scale military vehicle and figure combos on auction ending over the next few days. Most are customized, and one includes the original box for the Hasbro G.I. JOE toy.

When I saw that the seller is a vintage collectibles dealer from south Florida, it gave me a bittersweet feeling. Most of the customs I feature are created by talented customizers who ply their trade to supplement their incomes. I realized this lot was likely from a collector who is liquidating his collection or has passed away. In any case, I know these figures have truly been loved.
