Weekend Toy Run: Pre-Order Firefly Legacy Series 1

Funko Firefly Legacy series 1

I find myself in one of those in-between spaces this weekend. I’ve binge-watched Daredevil on Netflix and The Walking Dead via my cable company, but I’ve still got a week before Avengers: Age of Ultron opens here. That means it’s a perfect time for a Firefly and Serenity marathon! I can watch Firefly on Netflix or Amazon, but I can’t seem to find a source for Serenity – I might have to break out my DVD (gasp!)

If you’re marveling over just how far streaming video has come in the past dozen or so years, and feeling a bit nostalgic for that great Western set in outer space, it’s probably a good time to get a set of the first five Firefly action figures. And while you’re at it, tell me who (or what) you’d like to fill up that last spot in the presumed series 2. After Simon, River, Inara, and Shepherd Book, who would you want to see? Personally, I’d love a Christina Hendricks figure of Saffron, from Our Mrs. Reynolds and Trash. Shiny!

Each figure is $19.99, except for Kaylee at a slight discount at $19.34, and will ship in just a couple of weeks, on May 15.

Hot Toys Announces Avengers: Age of Ultron Mark I

Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron Mark I 01

We first saw the Ultron Mark I figure when Hot Toys teased us with a pic from their tour in Asia showing the evolution of Ultron near the start of the month. Now, with Avengers: Age of Ultron opening this weekend internationally, they’ve released the details for their latest version of Ultron, which happens to be Tony Stark’s first step in creating the misguided artificial intelligence.

The Mark I is packed with a crazy amount of detail revealed by the battle damage it suffered at the hands of some as of yet unknown Avengers enemy, but that doesn’t stop it from coming with working LEDs in all the places you’d expect (eyes, mouth, and ARC reactor). One of the accessories that comes with the figure gives another clue as to how Ultron comes into being – if you’ve watched any of the trailers it’s all pretty much laid out, but if not, don’t read the attached description too closely.

I’ll be checking Sideshow Collectibles for the incoming pre-order.

Border Patrol: WWE Elite Scale Play Set – Must See!

Border Patrol - WWE Elite Scale play set by Extreme Sets

For this edition of Border Patrol, we’re just featuring one eBay auction. But it’s a doozy!

I am instantly wary of eBay auctions listed with qualifiers like “OOAK HTF L@@K!!!” in the title. This auction is not titled like that; I’m the one applying the labels, because if you love action figures, you’ve got to check it out.

This play set was built to accommodate a Mattel WWE Elite Scale ring – that’s not included in the auction but you can pick up an Elite Scale ring with free shipping at the Mattel Shop this week. The play set comes with pretty much everything else (minus the figures, naturally) to give your wrestling action figures a full-size arena to put on a show. It comes with a couple of entrance sets, a Jumbotron and speakers that are suspended from the ceiling, and a custom built audience, complete with wrasslin’ slogans on their t-shirts.

This was a prototype built for an ambitious but ultimately underfunded Kickstarter project from last year. Be prepared to see a huge price tag, and know that this play set is so huge that the seller is only accepting bids from people who can pick it up (in a pickup truck, most likely) from its location in Southern California. Even if this puts you out of the running, you should still take a look at this one-of-a-kind WWE Elite Scale play set.

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

Webswipe: Batman v Superman Costumes and Batmobile Video – Bleacher Report

Batman v Superman costumes and Batmobile

With the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice teaser trailer officially released, Warner Bros. has allowed Bleacher Reports to publish a new video yesterday of NBA player DeAndre Jordan on a tour of the Batman 75th anniversary exhibit that’s part of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. The exhibit houses many costumes, props, and vehicles from the Batman movies starring Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, and Bale – but they surprised Jordan with the costumes and Batmobile from the latest movie too.

With the focus on Batman, the video gives some nice close-ups of the newest Batsuit, including the cowl, the chest emblem, gauntlets, and utility belt. But it also gives a brief glance at the costumes of Superman and Wonder Woman. Not much new with Superman’s duds, but with Wonder Woman we get to see how it looks compared to the heavily processed teaser image of Gal Gadot in costume. It looks much more colorful and in line with her palette from the comic books. And then of course, there’s a lot of quick cuts showing off the Batmobile. How are you liking them?
