Mattel Teases Modulok Art and Filmation Sword for Club Eternia Subs

Bless their hearts. Mattel is continuing the push for Club Eternia subscriptions by providing more teases during the final days of pre-orders for the sub.

Modulok was one of the Masters figures I didn’t have when I was a kid, but I can still appreciate why he’s in such demand by Masters of the Universe Classics fans. I would have thought between him and Two Bad that Club Eternia would have plenty of legs to push further than we are with subscriptions. Regarding the “mystery” sword, I know it wasn’t meant to be difficult to see that this will be the first Filmation power sword in the line. However, Mattel marketers take note: naming the image “HeMan_Filmation_Sword” was a dead giveaway. 😀

Now, let’s see if these new teases gives Club Eternia a pop in the sub numbers. The subscription window closes on August 19.

Masters of the Universe Classics Shokoti and Castaspella and DC Universe Classics Fire Headline the Mattycollector 8/15 Sale; Early Access on 8/14

Three ladies headline the August Mattycollector sale, and hallelujah – it’s not the Star Sisters. On the Masters front, it’s Castaspella from the regular Club Eternia sub, and Shokoti from the Club Filmation half-year sub. DC’s Fire serves as a poignant reminder that the Club Infinite Earths subscription is in dire straights. Her partner in crime heroics, Ice, is one of the figures that’s at risk if the subscription doesn’t hit minimums. Ghostbusters cosplayers, the Ecto Goggles go up for sale too.

For your convenience, here’s the link to the bundle page for the August Mattycollector sale, which opens at 9AM PST on Thursday.

Early Access opens tomorrow at 8AM PST. For Masters, it’s Rattlor and Man-E-Faces. For DC, it’s Uncle Sam and Platinum with Tin pack-in. But I’m wondering, why bother? If you have Early Access, you’re subbing, so you probably have those figures already. Until Early Access includes the sub figures going on sale the next day, it’ll be of limited value to me. But on the off chance you do need something, here’s the link to Early Access for August.

No Masters of the Universe Classics Clamp Champ for MattyCollector’s July Sale Today at 9AM PST

MattyCollector July Sale

To be fair, Mattel did warn us that some figures this year would have no day of sale stock, but for a character with a vintage counterpart like Clamp Champ? Seems like an odd choice. But with some new reports of MOTUC overstock hitting Big Lots, that might explain why management might be a little trigger shy on keeping the production levels at previous levels. All the other Masters should be available – that’s Icer from the new Filmation sub and New Adventures He-Man. Plus the customer service stock for Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Granymyr, and Filmation Randor still show as Coming Soon – I think that means they didn’t sell out during Early Access, which I missed last Thursday. Not that I intended to buy anything, but it seems like a better proposition for subscribers if Early Access were open from whenever it starts all the way through the actual sale. It seems arbitrary to open it just for a few hours on one day in advance.

On the DC side, I know a bunch of Captain Marvel fans are looking forward to Captain Marvel Junior, aka Freddy Freeman. And Watchmen fans are getting Nite Owl. I guess Mattel is holding back the Ozymandias reveal for the big show this week.

For your convenience, here’s the direct link to the bundle page for the MattyCollector July sale.

Will the Masters of the Universe Classics Icer Get a Cool Reception?

After Mattel revealed that Clamp Champ will not have any figures left over for “day of” sales, many cherry-pickers (and some Club Eternia subscribers, too) decried Mattel’s perceived continued push to get collectors to subscribe or miss out. Now that they’ve revealed packaged pics of Icer, the first in the six figure Filmation subscription, will they get more flack? Icer will have some figures available for day of sales. The main difference? Clamp Champ was one of the original figures in the vintage Masters of the Universe line, while Icer was not.

I think there’s little point to try to read anything into production levels for the first couple of Filmation figures. They sold the subs in February, so at least for Icer they probably had to make an educated guess on how many figures to make. But as they can factor in the number of Club Filmation subscribers, I believe they will reduce the number of extras. Mattel has shown that they don’t want to risk carrying extra inventory – so let’s see if we have day of sales inventory for the rest of the Filmation line.

Icer glides in

The Filmation subscription has begun! Icer, our premier figure in the 6 month 2013 Club Filmation subscription has begun! Icer ships in July to all Club Filmation sub holders with additional small quantities available for day of sales. Note Icer does not ship to Club Eternia members. Club Filmation was a separate purchase back in Feb. with one new Filmation character each month (from either the classic He-Man and Princess of Power animated shows!) July through December 2013.
