Mattel WWE Legends Andre the Giant on Sale 1/30/12

I was very disappointed when Mattel decided to pull its WWE Legends line from retail. But with their Rockers 2-pack still available on MattyCollector.com after going on sale late November last year, I guess that the demand for classic WWE Superstars might not be as strong as I would personally like it to be.

Hopefully Mattel’s release of Andre the Giant today will kick off the Legends sales via MattyCollector.com on a strong note for 2012. After Andre, Mattel plans to offer Fan’s Choice winners Diamond Dallas Page (April), King Kong Bundy (May), Arn Anderson (July), Tully Blanchard (September), and Miss Elizabeth (November). I’m most interested in the Miss Elizabeth figure, so I hope sales remain strong throughout the year.

For your convenience, here’s the WWE bundle page for today’s sale. In addition to Andre, there’s a limited number of Undertaker figures from San Diego Comic-Con last year, two types of display stands, and the languishing Rockers 2-pack.

New York Comic Con 2011 – Mattel WWE

Admittedly, Mattel’s WWE line has less of my interest since they’ve put the Legends line on hiatus for 2012. Sure, we’ll still be getting classic WWE superstars mixed in with the regular Basic and Elite lines on a regular basis and the regular Legends releases on MattyCollector.com, but I suppose my hopes of going to a Toys R Us and finding a Demolition Crush on the shelves are pretty low.

So much for my plan to recreate the full roster of the classic Technos Wrestlefest game from the 90’s! With the Legends released to date, I was short only Crush, Big Boss Man, and Earthquake. 🙂

Ask Matty Q&A Round-Up for 10/1

We know updates have been pretty sparse here since San Diego Comic-Con – we’ve all been super busy with real life. But I’m booked for a quick trip to New York next week for NYCC – so stay tuned!

Here’s a shout out to @philipjreed for encouraging us to get things started here again. Be sure to check out BattleGrip.com!

We’re back with the October edition of Ask Matty. Because of New York Comic-Con, Mattel won’t have another Q&A until November. Be sure to send in your questions as we get our coverage of NYCC up, since the next round of questions are due on the 15th.

1) We know we’ll get toys for The Dark Knight Rises, but what are the chances of Batman Legacy or another non-movie Batman line getting some shelf space in 2012?

In 2012, our collector product efforts will focus on Batman Legacy in the Spring, and TDKR Movie Masters once the movie product launches.

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 – Mattel Mattypalooza Panel Video

Back in our latest Ask Matty Q&A, we asked about the rights to the Filmation characters. Part of Matty’s answer:

If we ever do have access to this library of characters you will know it. It will not be announced cryptically but rather very loudly (if it ever happens).

And here we are, just a week later, with a rather loud announcement. We’ve got the video of Mattel’s Mattypalooza panel, covering the MattyCollector announcements for WWE, Ghostbusters, Voltron, Masters of the Universe Classics, and even some DC Universe Classics goodness.

Ask Matty Q&A Round-Up for 7/15

We’ve got the final Ask Matty Q&A before Comic-Con. Sure, we’re a few days late (more on that later), but that’s not the fault of the team at Mattel. Hope to see you at the big show!

1) We’re really looking forward to San Diego Comic-Con next week. We know you’ll be bringing the latest from your DC Universe, Masters of the Universe, Ghostbusters, Voltron and WWE brands. Will you have any new licenses to announce? Any hints?

No, we will not have any new licenses to announce at the show.
