AFP Ask Matty Round-Up for 3/15/11

We didn’t get the answers for the 3/15 edition of Ask Matty until late in the evening, so we’ll open up the day with them.

Thanks to the Mattel team!

1) We very much enjoyed all you had on display at Toy Fair. For DC Universe Classics, it seems like there was a move to themed waves with Blackest Night and Superfriends. Will later waves continue with a themed approach? We’re curious because with the themes, there seems to be less opportunity to fill in members for groups and teams you’ve started, like New Gods, Doom Patrol, the JSA, and the Metal Men.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Optimus Prime and Promotion

We’re just under four months to go before Transformers: Dark of the Moon hits theaters (on July 1), and that’s just enough time to kick off sixteen weeks of promotion for the movie and its accompanying toys. Optimus Prime, naturally, is the first figure from Dark of the Moon to hit shelves, and it will come with some glasses that will let you check out your favorite Transformers in 3D on Hasbro’s Transformers website.

That’s a nice tie-in for the movie, which should be a 3D extravaganza, but those glasses (of the red and blue variety) won’t be the same kind that will work in the theater. But Hasbro also plans on releasing Transformers role play gear in partnership with Real3D that will work in the movies (but not on the Hasbro website). I already have 3D equipment built into my head – I can’t wait for the technology that will display 3D images without the need for glasses of any kind. 🙂

DC Previews – DC Direct – On Sale in July through November

DC Direct has sent out their solicitations for March. Most of the items are scheduled to be available in stores in November. The most notable exception are the Flashpoint action figures, due in July – perhaps these were not solicited earlier to keep story plot points under wraps. I’m just glad to see more figures coming from DC Direct – the last two months of solicitations didn’t include any, and that led to some speculation, with the recent DC reorganization and consolidation to Los Angeles.

Read on for product descriptions.
