Watch Mattycollector’s Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Mockup and Comparison Video

Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Mockup Compared with Batmobile Ecto_600x600726

I may need to be covered in mood slime and blasted with some Ray Parker, Jr. – because I don’t think things are looking too good for the Ghostbusters Epic Creations Ecto-1. When I checked yesterday, the subscription tracking silhouette (typing that in made me miss the thermometer) hadn’t moved for over a week, if the 726 on the photo means July 26.

Toy Guru is bringing the marketing effort to YouTube, where he stacks up the foam model against the short-lived Mattel Ghostbusters figures and some earlier Mattel Ghostbuster vehicle efforts that somehow didn’t need pre-orders for Mattel to make them. To be fair, the earlier toys are smaller and didn’t have lights and sounds. In Ghostbusters, Ray Stantz was able to pick up the Ecto-1 for $4,800 – Mattel only has to sell 22 and a third of their 1/12 scale Ecto-1s to recoup the cost of the original.

With One Week to Go, the Four Horsemen’s Gothitropolis Ravens Kickstarter is Still Kicking Ass

Kickstarter - Gothitropolis Ravens by the Four Horsemen - 1 week to go

With the doom and gloom dampening the spirits of some of the bigger collector-oriented lines, it’s nice to know that a passionate fan-base can help a smaller, non-licensed toy line get a big start. The Four Horsemen’s Gothitropolis Ravens Kickstarter project has exceeded all of their expectations. With a week left in the campaign, backers have pledged enough to unlock all of the initially planned “stretch goals” – when I talked to Cornboy and Eric Treadaway a few weeks ago at San Diego Comic-Con, both said they initially thought the last two stretch goals (regular and bone wings) were too far out of reach. Not so.

With long-time and new fans continuing to jump on board the project in a big way, the Four Horsemen are putting together new stretch goals for the push in the final week of the campaign.

Soapbox Sunday: How Much is Digital River to Blame for Mattycollector Fallout?

Mattycollector

Get ready for a little rant – I just had another bad Mattycollector experience. This past Friday was Early Access. Normally it’s no big deal, offering the figures we’ve already subscribed for and customer service stock on a couple of other figures. But this time it was for some of Mattel’s San Diego Comic-Con exclusives.

Hurray for subscribing, right? Nope – leave it to Digital River to make it painful.

SDCC 2013: MATRIX Photo Booth – Cosplay and More Gallery – Sunday

SDCC 2013 - Matrix Photo Booth - Sunday

It’s the fifth and final day of our five days of Comic-Con cosplayers and more, as shot by Richard of the MATRIX Photo Booth. You’d think with people worn out by dressing up and walking around for four days that the Con wrapping up would be a great excuse to just phone it in. But no, there were still a heck of a lot of cosplayers doing their thing.

There’s close to 200 shots in this gallery, and over a thousand for the five days of SDCC. If you missed them, check out Preview Night, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the MATRIX Photo Booth galleries. Thanks for checking out these galleries this week – if you Richard’s work, leave a comment here, or shoot him an email to let him know!
