Lots of Mattel news today, but don’t forget that June 15 is the MattyCollector.com sale date. And I’m guessing with She-Ra, Keldor, DC Universe Classics Wave 5, Peter Venkman, and Lobo on sale, it’ll be a bit rough.
Toy Guru was a day early with the mid-month edition of Ask Matty… or are we going to be a day late submitting questions for the next one? Thanks to him and Mattel for this round of Q&A.
1) How are the DC Universe Classics All-Star repaints like Batman and Green Lantern doing at retail? At least at the TRUs where I shop, they don’t stick around long. What are the plans to continue this past the fourth figure, and when will that fourth figure be revealed?
The TRU repaints are doing great. The fourth figure will be revealed at SDCC. We can’t confirm anything beyond that right now but hope to have news soon.
I didn’t go to Wizard World Philly, but because we had heard that Mattel would be introducing a new Masters of the Universe Classics figure (it turned out to be Carnivus) when the Masters line was getting inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame, I recruited my good friend Ayeffkay to go on my behalf. Here’s some pictures that he sent our way.
In just over a week, you’ll get your chance to round out your set of 6-inch Ghostbusters when MattyCollector.com puts Peter Venkman up for sale. While it’s still decent, I think the Venkman head sculpt is the one that is most different from the actor’s likeness of the four Ghostbusters. It may be that Bill Murray has a tough face to render, or it could be that this is the slimed edition – perhaps they’ll get a little closer when they get around to releasing Venkman with the non-slimed head.
This Peter Venkman figure is watershed toy in a couple of ways. First, I really like the figure on its own merits – the likeness is good (though I think the un-slimed head shown at SDCC ‘09 was even better, can’t wait for that) and he is functional for some great scene recreation posing. However, as noted, we finally have all of the Ghostbusters together. Remember, 26 years and all that. So I think a lot of people will be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

1) I’m psyched that with the Green Lantern movie slated for next year, and great events in comics like Blackest Night and Brightest Day that more GL figures are on the way. Were the pictures of the Wal-Mart exclusive GL 5-pack in ToyFare of finished product with no more tweaks possible? Any words of encouragement for Sinestro fans who might still be looking for a great representation of him?
We are still tweaking the figures a bit to make sure they can hold their Lanterns. Sinestro is pretty final. We hope to still do a full new Sinestro down the road to make him even more accurate.
