Marvel Universe Iron Patriot Unmasked Variant – Big Bad Toy Store

Back in March, we asked Hasbro about the possibility for an unmasked Iron Patriot variant, based on the card art by Mike Deodato, Jr. They played coy back then, but Big Bad Toy Store has one in hand. At $200, that’s a pretty steep markup, but that may just be a reflection of the availability of the figure.

Has anyone found one of these at retail? If you have shoot us some pictures!

Don’t be fooled by the link in Diamond’s shipping update for Star Trek TOS Series 5 – the lineup was changed to Kirk in his green dress shirt, a reissue of Scotty, and a Romulan. The DST website still shows short-sleeved McCoy, Nurse Chapel, Yeoman Rand, and Kirk – the only survivor of this particular away party. The other three are still in limbo.

And, if you missed the latest Ask DST update, Chuck reveals that the next Marvel Select figure will be Gambit.

Remembering Eddie Wires – TheFwoosh.com

I was very sad to hear about the passing of Eddie Wires earlier this week. The staff of the Fwoosh put together a small article with our remembrances of Eddie. Some of us had just seen him a few weeks back, during San Diego Comic-Con. Eddie – we’ll miss you.

If you’re an action figure fan, chances are you’ve got a toy on your shelf that Eddie Wires helped create. Some of you probably have shelves full of toys Eddie had a hand in. After Eddie was done painting a prototype, that figure was the best it would ever look and the best it would ever be. That’s because no factory production process could ever hope to match what he created by hand.

I wasn’t lucky enough to spend a lot of time with Eddie, but it seemed to me that he had the same effect on the people around him as he did on the toys he created – life was better when he was there. Always friendly, always smiling, and it was certainly infectious.

If you look through his body of work (see his online portfolio or his Facebook albums), like I do from time to time, you’ll be reminded of what might have been in the world of toys. With him gone, I’ll ask myself that every time I see a painted prototype, and every time I’m outside on the balcony at Jolt’n Joes.

G.I. Joe, Marvel, Star Wars, and Transformers – August Press Pics

Hasbro has shared a ton of pictures (293 of them!) of upcoming products across its boys toys lines – GI Joe, Marvel, Star Wars, and Transformers were all represented this time around. We’ll start with GI Joe, which have continued to impress us since their San Diego Comic-Con showing with figures of Beachhead and Alley Viper that Sandman picked up at retail recently.
