Soapbox Sunday: How Much is Digital River to Blame for Mattycollector Fallout?

Mattycollector

Get ready for a little rant – I just had another bad Mattycollector experience. This past Friday was Early Access. Normally it’s no big deal, offering the figures we’ve already subscribed for and customer service stock on a couple of other figures. But this time it was for some of Mattel’s San Diego Comic-Con exclusives.

Hurray for subscribing, right? Nope – leave it to Digital River to make it painful.

SDCC 2013: MATRIX Photo Booth – Cosplay and More Gallery – Sunday

SDCC 2013 - Matrix Photo Booth - Sunday

It’s the fifth and final day of our five days of Comic-Con cosplayers and more, as shot by Richard of the MATRIX Photo Booth. You’d think with people worn out by dressing up and walking around for four days that the Con wrapping up would be a great excuse to just phone it in. But no, there were still a heck of a lot of cosplayers doing their thing.

There’s close to 200 shots in this gallery, and over a thousand for the five days of SDCC. If you missed them, check out Preview Night, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the MATRIX Photo Booth galleries. Thanks for checking out these galleries this week – if you Richard’s work, leave a comment here, or shoot him an email to let him know!

AFP Free Stuff Giveaway – SDCC 2013 Exclusive Marvel Universe Deadpool Corps Taco Truck

Marvel Legends Deadpool with Marvel Universe Deadpool Corps SDCC 2013 Exclusive

If you’ve been following AFP for a while, you probably know that I love Deadpool – so when I had a chance, I bought the San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Marvel Universe Deadpool Corps that comes ingeniously packaged in a taco truck. But as cool as the taco truck is, I’ve found that I just can’t get by my low regard for the comic book mini-series that spawned this 6-pack of of Deadpool, Lady Deadpool, Kidpool, Dogpool, Squirrelpool, and the Champion of the Universe. I mean, just typing that in has me shaking my head with disdain. So, instead of keeping this exclusive, I’ve decided to put it up for grabs in a special AFP Free Stuff giveaway.

(Note: Marvel Legends Deadpool, who is confused at my decision to buy something just to decide to give it away, is not part of this giveaway. Him, I’m keeping!)

It’s easy to enter, so while there can only be one winner of this contest, I hope that my dislike of a comic book will result in you getting your hands on a sold-out San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. And if you’re already a fan of the AFP Facebook page or follow the AFP Twitter account, you can un-like and un-follow and then re-like and re-follow using the contest widget, for those extra shots at winning this giveaway. Spread the word and good luck!

SDCC 2013: Toynami Booth Video

Toynami Hello Kitty Street Fighter SDCC Exclusives 2012 - 2013

I like to think that we get a little more Comic-Con savvy every time we go. Last year my wife missed out and had to pick up the Toynami Hello Kitty Street Fighter Chun Li on eBay. This year, on Preview Night, instead of previewing, she lined up at the Toynami booth and picked up this year’s Badtz Maru as Ryu and Hello Kitty as Akuma. I was lined up at Hasbro, which was right next to the Toynami booth, and I probably walked around that booth at least 15 times over the course of the show.

When I watched Toynami’s Comic-Con video, I realized I’m still as Comic-Con dumb as ever – I’m always so caught up in taking pictures / getting to panels / trying to get SDCC exclusives that I miss so much of the show. Sandman was more on top of things than me, and took some pics of the Toynami booth.

Sideshow Lists Exclusive Hot Toys Marvel and G.I. JOE Figures for Pre-Order

As the official distributor for Hot Toys in the US, Sideshow has access to exclusive figures and accessories that other retailers might not be able to carry. They’ve just listed two figures from Hot Toys’ “Toy Fairs” exclusives (figures that were shown and in some cases made available to order at various toy shows around the world) and two Iron Man 3 figures that each come with an exclusive accessory.

I have not yet seen Sideshow list the “evil” Superman figure from Superman III that Hot Toys had revealed with Star Spangled Cap and Joe Colton.
