Watch Mattycollector’s Club Infinite Earths Doomsday Comparison Video

DC fans, rejoice – Toy Guru does care about you!

Mattycollector has published a Youtube video comparing the different versions of Doomsday. In it, he’s got the tier 1 and tier 2 Doomsdays, namely the “containment suit” Doomsday and the “unleashed” Doomsday. For comparison, he’s also got the Collect and Connect Kilowog, with whom the Doomsdays share “upper bicep” (does he mean shoulders or biceps?) and “upper leg parts.” I don’t mean to quibble, but even if parts don’t share tooling, I’d imagine that the Four Horsemen are just building up from the blank Kilowog base, versus starting from scratch. I guess it probably doesn’t matter either way.

Toy Guru also has the DC Super Heroes Doomsday and a normal (vs New 52) DC Universe Classics Superman – both of whom are absolutely dwarfed by the two hopefuls. And yes, you will also hear about how if we don’t hit the subscription targets, they may not be able to make either Doomsday.

Last Day – Four Horsemen’s Gothitropolis Ravens Kickstarter Campaign Ends Tonight

As I mentioned in my little Soapbox Sunday rant yesterday, the Four Horsemen’s Kickstarter campaign for the Gothitropolis Ravens has been an unmitigated success. When I talked to them in San Diego, less than a week into the campaign, they were surprised they had hit the $65K target for funding (Kickstarter works on an all or nothing model for funding projects – if you don’t hit the target, you get nothing.) With just about 12 hours to go, they’ve already signed up around thirteen hundred backers who have pledged over a quarter of a million dollars.

If you’re already a backer, now’s the time to adjust your pledges. In the final days of the campaign, the Four Horsemen have been adding extra goodies. The secret figure that was revealed as a stretch goal, the Screaming Eagle, may come with an American flag cape – if they can source a quality one. An additional figure, the Pink Flamingo, was added when the funding totals blew past the regular and bone wings. And stands for the figures (including foot pegs and adjustable clip for flying poses) are now available as add-ons for $3 each.

Hot Toys Reveals the Mandarin from Iron Man 3

On the off chance that someone is reading this post who hasn’t seen Iron Man 3 yet (it’s not you, is it?), I’ll try to be spoiler-free. Ben Kingsley’s portrayal of the Mandarin is probably the strongest performance in the movie. It’s also arguably the worst thing in the Iron Man trilogy, and yes, I’m including Tony Stark urinating in his armor in Iron Man 2. Sorry if the armor-wetting was a spoiler too.

That said, if you’re not a fan of the Mandarin from the movies, you can still enjoy this figure. He looks like a bad-ass, just like he did in the movie. And he’s got the chair, the sunglasses, the ten rings, and the attitude. That’s ACTING!

ThreeA Toys Reveals Adventure Kartel Dead Easy Corp War-Zomb 3-Pack

I’ve already got some War Zombs in 1/12 scale and dig them, so here’s another toy budget-breaking 3A Toys set on the horizon. Somehow Dead Easy Corp hitting all the right sweet spots for me. Sure, it’s got the Zombs. But it also is hitting on that Band of Brothers Easy Company vibe. With zombies. And then there’s Sgt. Rock and Easy Company. With zombies.

This set is supposed to drop some time in September. Private Cornowski, Corporal Veal Edwards, and Sergeant Sweatbread Jones will be mine.

Toy Guru Sets the Record Straight about Mattycollector Subscription Targets (Again)

Toy Guru returns to YouTube to continue the push to hit the targets for Club Eternia, Club Infinite Earths, and Ecto-1 pre-orders. He also tries once more to squash the conspiracy theories about the meters. Repeat after Toy Guru: they are real – they are not a marketing ploy! Hey – repetition is a proven way to get a message across.

One of the more interesting remarks he makes is regarding the Club Eternia sign-up last year – he tells us that there was no meter on Club Eternia, because they thought they didn’t need one. I guess their surprise at the implied drop-off (I have no idea what the subscription numbers are) is why we have a He-Man shaped silhouette on the Club Eternia sign-up pages for 2014.

I’m still collecting both Masters of the Universe Classics and DC Universe Classics – Ghostbusters died for me when I couldn’t bring myself to buy that Dana Barrett. But I particularly feel for those of you just collecting DC. Maybe it’s just leftover from last year, when the MOTUC bias was much worse, but it still feels to me like DC is the red-headed stepchild – this video is shot in front of current and vintage Masters figures. On the DC front, only Doomsday is name-checked. I know Toy Guru is a big DC fan, but with his favored JLU line completed, there doesn’t seem to be any cohesive vision for what Club Infinite Earths should be – maybe that’s why it’s been hard to articulate why we should be buying the DC subscription.
