Marvel Select Magneto Prototype Pics

Here’s a couple of protoype pics, unpainted and painted,  from the Art Asylum blog of the upcoming Marvel Select Magneto. I first saw this figure at Toy Fair – he’ll come with both interchangeable heads, with and without his helmet.

Because He’s EVIL

Really, it explains everything about this newest addition to the Marvel Select line.  Why does he look like he’s about to destroy everyone? Why is he standing over the wreckage of the X-Mansion?  Why does he have such an angry look?  Why is his back turned when clearly someone is trapped in the rubble?  The answer to all of these questions is “Because he’s EVIL”  Well, truth be told, the whole arm-of-Colossus thing on the base is because yours truly is a little whcked in the head and felt like having some sick fun with the fans (I guess this means I’ll have to do a Colossus Select figure as a future make-good, huh?).  The Master of Magnetism is sculpted by Gabriel Marquez and painted by Ed Wires.

NECA Announces Jonah Hex Props and Figures

My first exposure to comics was through my uncle’s pile of DC comics. He mostly read three titles: Justice League of America, House of Secrets, and Jonah Hex. I’m psyched to see Hex make his way to the big screen, and now I’ll have the chance to add him to my toy shelves. We have more pics of the NECA Jonah Hex figures from Toy Fair.

Welcome Jonah Hex

NECA shows off first figures and props from the new movie!

Josh Brolin is Jonah Hex, a scarred bounty hunter with a chance at freedom from the warrants out on him. All he has to do is bring down Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich), who’s been planning to unleash hell on earth. Aided by the gun-toting prostitute Leila (Megan Fox), Jonah Hex sets out to secure his future and maybe just save all of ours in the process.

The film is out June 18, but you won’t have to wait nearly that long to get your hands on our first batch of goodies from Jonah Hex! NECA is proud to unveil an assortment of action figures and two movie props that are sure to start your summer blockbuster season off just right.

First up is the tomahawk hatchet that Jonah Hex uses in the movie. Our authentic replica is made of wood and metal, is 16″ in length and cast directly from a film-used prop. Obviously we don’t recommend throwing it or the hacking of anyone into tiny bits, but it certainly does look great on a shelf.

Next is the cane carried by Quentin Turnbull. Just like the one used on screen, our replica has an eagle head, is over three feet long and is made of wood and metal.

And last but not at all least, the action figures. Set to a 7″ scale, our first Jonah Hex assortment features Jonah Hex, Leila and Quentin Turnbull. Jonah comes with a pistol, his tomahawk, and a removable hat. Quentin features his cane, a pistol and removable hat and mask, and Leila comes with a pistol. That might seem like a lot of pistols, but hey, it’s a pistol-toting kind of movie.

Our line of Jonah Hex replicas and figures hits stores next month, but is available now for preorder and will also be featured on our Amazon storefront.

DC Direct Blackest Night Behind the Scenes

If you picked up the Blackest Night #1 Director’s Cut this week, you were treated to a host of extras for the issue, like the issue’s script, character concept art, and this brief behind the scenes look at how DC Direct produced its Blackest Night Hal Jordan figure.

It’s very cool to see the process that takes a character from 2-dimensional reference art, through various stages of sculpting, and finally to the painted prototype stage.  Series 4 of the Blackest Night line is on shelves now, and Series 7 and 8, due in November and December, were just announced.

If DC Direct follows this up with a compatible Brightest Day series, it could rival the longevity of the Ed McGuinness and Alex Ross lines.

Mattel WWE Elite Collection Series 3 John Cena and Shawn Michaels

This is a guest review by SalemCrow. He last reviewed the Hot Toys Wolverine from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His previous Mattel WWE reviews include the Mattel WWE Entrance Greats Triple H and Elite Series 1 Undertaker, CM Punk, and Rey Mysterio Jr.

Hello all, I’m back with another review of Mattel’s new WWE figures. This time I’m going to cover the Elite Series 3 figures of John Cena and The Heart Break Kid, Shawn Michaels.

As I mentioned in my previous Elites review, Mattel has kept the style of packaging close to that of the Jakks Deluxe Aggression box packaging, but added their spin on it. The sides and top of the package come apart easily enough, and fold down so you can free the figures from their prisons.  Each figure also comes with a figure stand with a tiny paper name plate that sticks in front of it.
