DC Direct Green Lantern Blackest Night Quick Pics

I’ve been a big fan of Green Lantern since Hal Jordan and Alan Scott took on Solomon Grundy in a Silver Age issue of Justice League of America. When the GL franchise got a boost from what Geoff Johns was doing with Blackest Night, I started building out my Green Lantern Corps, including the key members of the new “Rainbow” Corps. My primary DC collection is still Mattel’s DC Universe Classics, but at the time, many of the supporting characters had not yet been made. So, a bunch of my earlier Green Lantern collection was from DC Direct (now known as DC Collectibles) – including Saint Walker, Atrocitus, Black Hand, Nekron, Kilowog, and Guy Gardner.

SDCC 2012: DC Collectibles Reveals 3.75-Inch Kyle Rayner and Kilowog 2-Pack – New Scale to be Con Exclusive

DC Collectibles (formerly known as DC Direct) has revealed a Kyle Rayner and Kilowog 2-pack for San Diego Comic-Con in the 3.75-inch scale. It’s a curious choice, since DCD has always been firmly entrenched in the somewhat fluid 6 to 7-inch scale. Also curious is that this scale will be available only at conventions. I can only surmise that the DCD guys have felt the void in the scale that GI Joe and Star Wars have made pervasive, since Mattel shut down its underperforming effort with DC Infinite Heroes.

With a con-only line, though, Rayner and Kilowog will be lonely. The promise of the smaller scale is getting a whole mess of characters for your shelves, like we hoped for with DC Infinite Heroes and what we have been getting with Hasbro’s Marvel Universe line. If this set sells like gangbusters, I imagine that we’ll see this scale from DC Collectibles make its way to your local comic book stores and specialty retailers. Let’s put on our Blue Lantern rings and hope!

DC Universe Classics Cosmic Odyssey

Cosmic Odyssey - group.jpg

I’ve often joked that Mattel and the Four Horsemen created the DC Universe Classics line so they could make every character from the epic comic from Jim Starlin and Mike Mignola that is Cosmic Odyssey – but seeing all these figures together, spanning the entire life to-date of this toy line, you have to admit that I may be onto something. The very first wave of the line gave us Batman, Etrigan, and Orion. That’s THREE out of the five figures in the first wave, all from Cosmic Odyssey!

And in the very first year of the DC subscription, the club exclusive figure is Metron – the New God whose quest for knowledge about the Anti-Life equation serve as the catalyst for the events in Cosmic Odyssey. Admit it – you think I’m right!
