Marvel.com Reveals the Marvel Select Wolverine Movie Figure

Hagop and I got an early look at this Wolverine figure when we saw the upcoming Marvel Select figures at Toy Fair. Of course, photos were not allowed. Seeing this in person, my first impression was that the figure had a pretty good likeness for Hugh Jackman. This is a nice figure from Diamond Select Toys, but I think it needs more hair. (Add this to the list of odd statements I’ve had to make for the sake of my toy hobby.)

Diamond Select Toys unveils the new Marvel Select Wolverine figure!

“Marvel’s The Avengers.” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” “The Amazing Spider-Man.” The Marvel cinematic universe is a constant source of great characters and costumes for the Marvel Select action figure line from Diamond Select Toys. This year, three films based in the Marvel Universe will make it into Select form. While all three films are highly anticipated, one has been shrouded in secrecy, leaving fans to only guess at what toys the film might bring. But now DST has unveiled their newest Select figure, for 20th Century Fox’s “The Wolverine!”

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, “The Wolverine” finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed. This seven-inch action figure, due out this fall, depicts Wolverine in a look straight out of the film and features 16 points of articulation as well as interchangeable hands and heads, sculpted by Gentle Giant! The figure comes with a detailed display base in display-ready Select packaging, with the movie art on the shelf reference panel. Visit http://www.diamondselecttoys.com/ for more.

Toy Fair 2013: Hasbro Star Wars Black Series (6-inch)

I couldn’t rightly go to sleep tonight without posting about the recently announced Star Wars Black Series. With their announcement of the new 6-inch line, Hasbro had highlighted one of the figures in the first wave of four – the X-Wing Luke Skywalker. The Star Wars team spent some time talking about the genesis of the line – they wanted to create a line of figures that recalled specific scenes from the movies – ones that would be iconic and instantly recognizable to fans. For Luke, that meant poring over tons of reference and agonizing over details as specific as clothing folds.

That attention to detail, with partner Gentle Giant, as paid off, as Hasbro showed off the rest of the first wave – R2-D2, the Sand Trooper, and Darth Maul – and teased the inevitable San Diego Comic-Con exclusive.

Hasbro Star Wars 6-Inch a Reality – Announces Black Series on USAToday.com

a4301000_6in_luke_package_final-copy-3_4_r536_c534Yes, the rumors of 6-inch Star Wars figures are true, and it looks like Hasbro has given the nod to Gentle Giant.

I thought we would have to wait for Toy Fair in a couple of weeks for confirmation, but Hasbro announced the Star Wars Black Series on USAToday.com. While the article says that the line will focus on the original trilogy, the first wave of four figures will include Episode 1 baddie, Darth Maul. Rounding out the first wave due in August are X-Wing Luke (shown at the right), R2-D2, and an Imperial Sandtrooper, with a planned retail price of $19.99 each. Hasbro is planning a second wave of four figures before the end of the year.

Although Hasbro referenced Marvel Legends, it does not look like the Black Series will incorporate the Build-A-Figure concept. Could you imagine a 6-inch scaled Rancor?

I’m sure there will be lots more questions, but at top of mind for me right now are these two. First, with the line launching so close to San Diego Comic-Con, will we see an SDCC exclusive to really kick this line off? And second, Hasbro always announces a huge vehicle at Toy Fair – could it be something in the 6-inch scale this time around?

Marvel Select Ultron On Sale for $16 at Amazon

Marvel Select UltronIt wasn’t until Ninjak picked the Marvel Select Ultron as his Best of 2012 that I decided to get one for myself. I was still a little reluctant, as Marvel Select prices have crept up over the past few years and are now regularly around $25 where I live. They haven’t been much cheaper online – so I’ve been watching eBay.

One of the auctions I had on my watch list was ending tonight, and for a pretty decent price. It eventually closed at $12 and change – but with shipping came in at over $20. I didn’t bid, however. In the last minutes before the auction closed, I did a quick check on Amazon, and found it for $16 from an Amazon vendor with Prime.

Best deal I’ve seen on the MS Ultron yet! There’s only a few left from the vendor at this price, but even if you miss it, Amazon is keeping pace and selling it for just a quarter more, at $16.25.

Happy shopping!
