CC40: Marvel Legends True Believers’ SHIELD 3-Pack by GrownNerd

Shield 1a

That doofus known as GrownNerd may not know what’s up in general, but he’s a long time nerd so he’s down with what nerds want. And what do you want?

You want a classic cigar chomping gun toting jet pack accessory flying Nick Fury, not long coat wearing Ultimate Snakes on the M*****F***ing Plane Fury.

You want a middle aged Dum Dum Dugan that has a belly not unlike your own stout but firm abdomen, not that young Adonis shaped pretty boy from the Twin Packs.

You want a Russian sexpot Black Widow with assets gratuitously displayed, not that disappointingly PG rated movie Natasha with straps and zippers everywhere but all of them strapped and zipped.

So here is a SHIELD 3-pack, for nerds, by a nerd.

CC40: NECA Robowar by Death Weed

As everyone knows, one of our most popular lines is our figures based on characters from the Predator films. Try as we might, we have been unable to secure actor likeness for Dutch’s team from the first movie. We’re not going to let that stop us from bringing you a team of mercenaries to help Dutch fight/get killed by the predator, so we’ve gotten the rights to the next best thing: the 1988 Italian knock-off of Predator, Robowar.

Starring Reb Brown doing what Reb Brown does best: screaming incoherently and shooting things wildly. It’s basically Predator… except with a robot instead of an alien, and a boat instead of a choppah. That’s about it.

Hot Toys Announces Nick Fury from Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Hot Toys Captain America The Winter Soldier Nick Fury 01

Ever since he made his cameo appearance in the post-credit scene in the first Iron Man movie, I’d been wondering if we’d ever get to see what’s underneath Nick Fury’s eye patch. And after appearing in another four movies (Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers) and the Agents of SHIELD TV show, we finally did, at the climax of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. How many eye-related puns did we have to endure in the process?

The eye reveal must have motivated Hot Toys to release a new Nick Fury. The first came a few years back as part of the Hot Toys Avengers line-up. I skipped it back then, and while I think the likeness to Samuel L. Jackson is improved, I’m not sure I’ll pull the trigger here either. The Avengers Fury came with a pistol, radio, rocket launcher, and the briefcase that housed the Tessaract. In comparison, the Winter Soldier Fury comes with a pistol, cell phone, arm sling, and an encrypted thumb drive to move the plot forward. Meanwhile, the price has crept up. I’ll have to keep an eye on this one. (Groan.)

You can pre-order the Hot Toys Captain America TWS Nick Fury at Sideshow Collectibles.

Get a Personalized SHIELD Guidebook for Your Little (or Big) Agent of SHIELD

Put Me In The Story - Avengers Black Ops Field Guide

I’ve been suffering from some lingering guilt ever since getting a personalized SHIELD badge and ID card at NYCC a few years ago, when the Agents of SHIELD TV sereies was just getting started. You see, I got one for myself, and not for my wife. So when I got the opportunity to personalize The Avengers: Black Ops Field Guide book from Put Me In The Story, I jumped at the chance to immortalize Agent Random Things in print.

The process took just a few minutes, and after about a week, I was able to give her a completely personalized book, including a SHIELD ID card with her picture and details, a dedication I wrote, and a bunch of other cool stuff in the book. I recreated the process with a pre-Super Soldier Serum Steve Rogers for you to follow along, since my wife would terminate me with extreme prejudice if I were to divulge any of her personal info. 😀
