In this week’s Border Patrol, we’ve got a trio of Marvel Legends customs, including one that closes in just a couple of hours. Don’t miss out!
- Marvel Legends Ultron (Movie) Build-a-Figure by Horton’s Heroes: This repaint of the build-a-figure from the recent Marvel Legends wave is very clean and shiny, so it’s no wonder its auction is off the hook. It ends in a couple of hours, so if you are willing to put down some coin, better act fast. Ends today at 3:32PM PST.
- Marvel Legends Jubilee by TextureMe Customs: If you didn’t get the build-a-figure from the exclusive X-Men wave, then this might be the one for you. It’s built off the Captain Marvel body, so it might be a little big depending on how you like your Jubilees. One thing I like is the multi-colored plasma effects on the accessories that came with Scarlet Witch. Ends Friday, July 17, at 8:09PM PST.
- Marvel Legends Whirlwind by Stevid Customs: Marvel Legends could use some more Masters of Evil, and this Whirlwind is about as clean as you can get a custom. Ends Saturday, July 18, at 7:00PM PST.
In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!
CustomCon 39 is coming! Entry deadline is August 1.
One booth stop I must make every year at Comic-Con is Sideshow Collectibles, to see the Hot Toys they’ve got on display. But it’s a bit of an odd licensing vs. distribution conundrum this year, for all parties involved. Hot Toys has started cranking out the Star Wars figures, and Sideshow is their distributor in the States. But Sideshow has also held their own Star Wars license for longer than Hot Toys has. Coopetition?
Let’s see what Hot Toys has done in the short time they’ve held their Star Wars license, and see what else they’re up to.

It’s Preview Night at San Diego Comic-Con, and one of my first stops was the Hasbro booth to check in on Marvel Legends. Hasbro has spent a little to upgrade the display cases throughout its booth, with clear glass cases and spotlights that provide dramatic backlighting that is bright enough to allow for clear pictures. This comes at the trade-off of less display space. What the Marvel team put out on Preview Night was mostly what we had seen and heard about at Toy Fair. But there were a few figures that we saw in person for the first time, and a couple of ones that snuck out that were surprises.

But the placeholder lists it as out of stock
Last year, Target had the Marvel Legends Ms. Marvel (Warbird), Captain America, and Radioactive 3-pack exclusive. At Toy Fair, Hasbro announced Target would be following it up with Ultron, Hulk, and the Vision. I’ve been wondering when it was going to show up, and our good pal Paul spotted it and let us know. Here it is:
The listing looks like it’s a placeholder for eventual release; it’s currently listed as out of stock. And it looks to be built off of last year’s exclusive 3-pack. While the title and main image reflect this year’s exclusive, the additional pictures and product description feature Ms. Marvel, Cap, and Chen Lu. It’s also listed at $30, from when Target put the last one on clearance.
Now that we know it exists, we’ll be watching the listing closely. Now might be a good reminder to follow our social media channels, as those are the first places we’ll be notifying when the 3-pack is finally in stock. Happy shopping!
All the other Avengers got updates for Age of Ultron, so why wouldn’t the God of Thunder? Thor gets an updated headsculpt with Chris Hemsworth’s likeness, an LED light-up Mjolnir, and something we haven’t seen before – an iOS / Android app that promises to pit the forces of Ultron against Thor, via augmented reality. Is that cool or just a throwaway gimmick? You tell me!
You can pre-order the Hot Toys Marvel Thor Sixth Scale Figure at Sideshow Collectibles. Have at thee!
