WebSwipe: Mattel Classic TV Series Batman Julie Newmar Catwoman – Action Figure Insider

Congrats to the folks at AFI, now in their 8th year. This week they kicked off their anniversary celebration with this scoop – the unveiling of the upcoming Julie Newmar Catwoman from Mattel’s Batman line for the 1960’s classic TV show. Catwoman joins Bat’s Rogues Gallery – the Joker (revealed at Meltdown Comics), the Riddler and the Penguin. Two caveats – this is a hand-painted paint master, and the figure has not yet been fully articulated.

AFi66Catwoman21Catwoman is the fourth and final major recurring villain that frequently teamed up with fellow evildoers Joker, Penguin, and Riddler, so Mattel is completing a team AND opening up the number of great moments from the series that fans may want to “re- enact” with these figures.

This is the first-ever 6” scale Julie Newmar Catwoman, and the Design Team tells us it was a thrill to finally be able to capture this iconic rendition of the character in plastic!

The Mattel Sculpting Department poured a lot of love and attention into this portrait sculpt, creating MANY different versions over several months as they worked to capture the beauty of Julie Newmar and Catwoman! I think we can all agree that their hard work and attention to detail paid off! Just look at the texture and paint job on that catsuit! It looks like it just popped off your TV screen! All of the likenesses shown for this line have been top notch and the Catwoman figure is no exception. That face sculpt is one of the loveliest that Mattel has ever done.

Toy Fair 2013: NECA Lone Ranger

NECA Lone Ranger (1 of 6)

Yes, I still have Toy Fair pictures, and I need a break from all the Iron Man hoopla. And what could be a better respite from hi-tech armor than an old-fashioned gunslinger and his faithful Indian companion? I’d hoped by now to hear more about NECA’s Lone Ranger toys, but I suppose with the movie pushed back to a July 3 opening, we still have a couple of weeks before we should start to see some product hit retail shelves.

At Toy Fair, NECA promoted two lines – one in 7-inch scale and one in 1/4 scale (like the NECA 1/4 scale Batman figures). What they had on display, however, was a bit confusing. I don’t think the larger figures are the 1/4 scale figures – they looked a little too small for that to me. I actually think those are 2-ups for the 7-inch figures. Entertainment Earth and BigBadToyStore have the 7-inchers estimated to arrive some time in May.

Don Cornholious may have found the Injustice 2-Packs expensive, even with a Buy Two Save Ten deal, but I don’t think even he could argue with free. IGN is holding a giveaway for two of the Injustice two-packs – Wonder Woman / Solomon Grundy, and Green Arrow / Deathstroke.

It’s an easy contest to enter – just comment on the IGN giveaway page which Injustice character you like best. The giveaway ends Monday, April 29.

Hot Toys Reveals Iron Man Mark 35 Red Snapper Power Pose

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark 35 Red Snapper Power Pose 1

I take it back – I’ve been calling the figures from the Hot Toys’ Power Pose line “statues” – and with their reveal of the Iron Man Mark 35 Red Snapper, I see that I’ve been wrong. Sure, the Iron Man Mark 42 Power Pose may be pretty limited in its articulation. It will have interchangeable parts to facilitate a couple of dynamic poses. But the Red Snapper features a bunch of articulation – maybe not the same as in Hot Toys’ standard and diecast lines, but certainly enough to be wrong to call it a statue.

Hot Toys also shows how some parts will be interchangeable between Power Pose and the other Hot Toys Iron Man lines. You can swap an RDJ head onto the Red Snapper, and you can take those big claws and fit them onto another Iron Man. Hopefully we’ll see the other two Iron Man armors Hot Toys announced with Red Snapper soon.
