Marv and Hartigan from Sin City to be Resurrected by Diamond Select Toys

The Sin City movie by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller is nearing nine years old – but with a second movie due out in August this year, Diamond Select Toys has picked up the brand from previous licensee, NECA. DST will produce figures in the 7-inch scale under its Select branding.

The first series features three characters from the original movie, Marv, Hartigan, and Nancy. All three will also be featured in the sequel (or prequel, as both Marv and Hartigan met their ends), A Dame to Kill, and I’m guessing DST will produce figures for this movie as well. Sin City Select Series 1 will hit shelves in early July.

Sin City Select Series 1 Action Figures

Walk down the right back alley in Sin City and you can find anything, but you don’t need to live in Sin City to get high-quality Select action figures of the movie’s main cast! The first series of 7-inch-scale, fully poseable figures from DST includes Marv, Hartigan and Nancy, all based on their appearances in the 2005 feature film. Each figure comes packaged with a deluxe display base and accessories in the famous Select display packaging, complete with spine reference artwork. Sculpted by Jean St. Jean!

Icon Heroes Reveals Snake Mountain Polystone Environment Statue

Icon Heroes Masters of the Universe Snake Mountain 01

As much as fans are enjoying their Masters of the Universe Classics Castle Grayskull playsets from Mattel, it’s unlikely that they will produce a companion Snake Mountain. That’s where Icon Heroes comes in – they created a Snake Mountain as a polystone statue. While not in scale with MOTUC, it could still serve as a backdrop or just a unique item for your collection. And of course, Icon Heroes also made Castle Grayskull plus an awesome accessory kit.

The Icon Heroes Snake Mountain will sell for $299.99 and ship in 4Q this year.

NECA Gives Us a Sneak Peek Video of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Action Figures

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I am a sucker for action figures of primates – one day I’ll have to gather up all of the gorillas I’ve managed to acquire and take some pictures. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the last movie installment in 2011, had some nicely articulated action figures of Caesar and Koba from a company called Hiya, but at the time they seemed a little expensive… a couple of years of price creep later and they don’t seem that way now.

But with NECA picking up the license for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, chances are we’ll see great sculpt, although I’m worried we might see a little bit less on the articulation side. I’ll just have to squint at that Sneak Peek video to try to see some more.

Red Hood and the Outlaws, Arkham City Clayface Headline DC Collectibles Solicits

If you are suffering from withdrawal from Mattel’s DC Universe Classics after Club Infinite Earths died an ugly death last year, rest assured that DC Collectibles is continuing to make collector-oriented, comics-based action figures, as well as figures supporting the popular DC video games. On the comics front, Red Hood and the Outlaws get a series of figures. I’m not reading the book, so I have no idea whether this version of Jason Todd will delight the fans that were disappointed by Mattel’s costume choice for him. But I do know that Roy wearing a baseball cap looks dumb.

Clayface is the latest deluxe figure from Batman: Arkham City. He’s huge and, at $99.95,  has the price tag to match. And there’s more, including more Injustice and some Earth 2 heroines.

Three New Initiatives for ThreeA Toys for 2014

With the growth of 3A Toys’ licensed products, there’s been a lot of new brands coming on board, like the most recent Microman / Micronauts line. But that hasn’t stopped Ashley Wood from mixing it up with its mainstay brands. Here’s three twists from 3A that are new for 2014:

  • WWR EVOL – announced nearly half a year ago, EVOL represents the second act in the World War Robot story. As such, expect some new factions and colorways to join or replace the ones we’ve seen in WWR thus far. We’re likely to see EVOL releases in the regular 1/6 and 1/12 scales. Marquis de Plume is the first announced figure from the EVOL line, in 1/6 scale. I’ve always thought the WWR line was a bit heavy on the pouches, but Marquis would give any Rob Liefeld-designed character a run for the money – if money were pouches.
  • 3AGO – back in September, 3A announced 3AGO, a tribute to the classic MEGO line of figures. This new 8-inch line will span the 3A brands – looks like the first releases will include Nom de Plume from WWR and a Tomorrow King. The TK will be available, likely in extremely limited quantities, at New York Toy Fair. Ash has said this first run of 3AGO will have some issues, but I doubt that will stop the Legionnaires from snatching these up.
  • 3A Adventure (the ThreeA Digital Comic Magazine) – the toys were born out of Ashley Wood’s artwork, so the foray into a digital comic featuring the 3A brands takes it full circle. While no launch date is set, the ambitious plan is to publish 3A Adventure monthly and for free (at least digitally). Ash will be collaborating with 3A Legionnaire and artist extraordinaire BRiZL – if you’ve been a 3A fan and enjoyed the artwork that gets produced by the community during each product drop, you’ve probably seen a bunch of BRiZL’s stuff. How cool is that?
