It’s Official – DC Comics Super Heroes UGLYDOLLS to Fly Off Shelves this Fall

UGLYDOLL Ice-Bat as Batman UGLYDOLL Babo as Superman

For the past couple of weeks, UGLYDOLL co-creator David Horvath has been posting pictures of his UGLYDOLL plush characters Ice-Bat and Babo as Batman and Superman on his Facebook page. Now it’s official, with Pretty Ugly and Warner Bros. announcing the collaboration.

When we first posted about the DC Ugly Dolls, we had also found that Diamond had already included the assortment in Previews. I’m guessing now that the assortment, which is listed on Urban Collector for about $140, consists of 6 plush figures, putting them at about $23 and change, which is in line with the press release. Also of note, Funko will be making vinyl figures of the DC Ugly Dolls that will hit in 4th quarter this year, right in time for the holidays.

MattyCollector Early Access Open for May Sale – Will Spirit of Hordak Frustrate Fans?

MattyCollector.com May Sale

Toy Guru promised to make Early Access worthwhile to subscribers, and as it opens this morning I wonder if he it’s working out in practice. For one, there have been a couple of last minute changes – sometimes the emails and news updates on the site are inconsistent. Like this month, the email referenced the Masters of the Universe Classics Evil-Lyn, but at the last minute they’ve switched to Stinkor. And, for the most part, Early Access has been limited to older MOTUC figures that long-time collectors already have.

Of course, that changed when the convention exclusive MOTUC Strobo came and went in Early Access in about five minutes, causing lots of subscribers to scream bloody murder. And chances are good that we’re heading for another one of those this morning.

Update: Early Access got a late start. Spirit of Hordak was available for about 5 minutes – sold out now. By the clock on my laptop he was up for grabs from 8:13 – 8:18AM PST. Let us know if you were able to pick one up!

She-Ra Coming This Fall to NBC – Mattel Toys on Retail Shelves Next?

She-Ra on NBC starring Kylie Minogue

With the ABC hit series Once Up Upon a Time becoming a franchise with spin-off Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, it seems that NBC wants in on the resurgent female-oriented fantasy drama. They’ve got big plans for She-Ra, starring Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue. Hey, she starred as Cammy in the Street Fighter movie with Jean Claude Van Damme, so we know she’s got the chops for the demanding action sequences.

This is what Mattel has been waiting for. How long until we see them get back onto retail shelves with Masters of the Universe Classics?

In Honor of Mother’s Day – the Top Three Moms Who Deserve Action Figures

Friday the 13th 25th Anniversary Boxed Set

It was a slow day for AFP yesterday, as I was on the road taking my wife and her mom to Las Vegas as a little Mother’s Day celebration. As we were sitting at the gate waiting to board the plane, I thought about action figures of mothers. And came up with one. Pamela Voorhees, from Friday the 13th, was the only one I could recall. And actually, there were at least two made of her. In 2005, NECA came out with deluxe set for the movie’s 25th anniversary, with Jason and his dear old mom (pictured above, courtesy of BigBadToyStore). Sideshow made a 1/6 scale version – see Michael Crawford’s review of Pamela Voorhees.

So, what other mothers deserve action figures? Before getting called to board the plane, I came up with three.

ThreeA Toys Valve Portal 2 P-body Preview

When 3A Toys picked up a license from Valve, the video game developers for hit franchises like Counter Strike, Team Fortress, and Left 4 Dead, my mind reeled with the possibilities. After all, there are a lot of synergies – army men and zombies? When the first Valve-related products came out, the Team Fortress Sandvich and the Portal Companion Square (eBay links), I was hoping for more. Granted, those items were both extremely popular, but didn’t feel like they were leveraging all that 3A could do.

That changes with the upcoming Portal 2 Atlas P-body figures. These two are within another of 3A’s wheelhouses – robots – and really have a wow factor to them. They’re 1/6 scale figures, are fully loaded with insane articulation, LED lights, and handheld Portal generators. No prices yet, but I’m betting these will sell like gangbusters.
