Iron Man Movie Hall of Armors Infographic and Hot Toys Poll

Iron Man Infographic 1 Iron Man Infographic 2 Iron Man Infographic 3 Iron Man Infographic 4 Iron Man Infographic 5

We found this great infographic in our inbox about the Iron Man armors portrayed in the three Iron Man movies and the Avengers. It shows enough factoids about each to perhaps extend the Trivial Pursuit line to include an Iron Man edition. Oddly, the Mark 42 is notably absent from the list. The Iron Man infographic is from Costume Discounters, of all places. I guess they would like to do a brisk business in Iron Man and other super hero costumes, and I wish them the best of luck.

The last portion of the infographic shows the new Iron Man 3 armors revealed before the movie opened (minus the Mark 42 of course). And we know Hot Toys is working off this list, since they’ve already announced the Iron Patriot, War Machine, Red Snapper, Heart Breaker and Igor as upcoming releases.

It got me thinking, which of the three remaining armors will they make next? But more importantly, which do you want next?

I think I already know, but let’s see what you guys have to say. Of course, there’s a ton more armors featured in the movie (spoiler, if you somehow managed to miss all of the Iron Man previews they showed in the last few months), so this list will probably grow even longer – anyone know a site that lists them all?

Save $5 on Hasbro Iron Man Figures at Amazon.com

Marvel Iron Man Legends Heroic Age Iron Man Figure Marvel Iron Man Legends Heroic Age Iron Patriot Figure Iron Man 3 Marvel Legends Classic Iron Man Figure

When I ordered Iron Man Legends Wave 2 at Amazon last week (sorry, sold out for now), I was wondering what the promotion was that gave me a $5 discount – turns out that Amazon is running a Spend $25 and Save $5 deal just for Hasbro Iron Man toys. A lot of the Iron Man 3 prize pack that we had up as a Free Stuff Giveaway last week is up there, like the Marvel Iron Man 3 Motorized Arc FX Gauntlet and the Marvel Iron Man 3 ARC FX Mission Mask, and there’s also a bunch of figures for sale. Probably of most interest is Iron Man Legends wave 1, if you are still looking for those. They’ve got all three figures, including the shortpack:

You’ve got to spend $25 for the promo to kick in, but if you’re buying a couple of figures, you’ll trigger that plus the free shipping. And if you are desperately looking for to complete the Iron Monger BAF, BigBadToyStore has Iron Man Legends Wave 2 cases in stock for you to split with your friends. The sets of three they had available sold out over the weekend. Happy shopping!

ThreeA Toys Official Teaser for Invincible Iron Man, Marvel Series One Release One

3A Toys Invincible Iron Man TeaserWe got our first look at 3A Toys’ Invincible Iron Man prototype over the weekend thanks to kadoo on the 3A Forums, who spotted the teaser poster at a convention in Asia. With the cat out of the bag, 3A posted the official teaser image on the 3A Blog last night. (Click the image for the full size view.)

Based on my first viewing I thought that this was still in its early stages, because the image notes that it’s not final, plus I didn’t see any articulation in the elbows (the knees are in the shadows). But Ashley Wood confirmed that the figure is already fully articulated – but that the joints won’t be visible. Some folks are wondering if that means that joints like the elbows and knees will have rubber sheaths to hide them – I think that’s likely the only way those types of joints could be hidden. Other points of articulation, like shoulders, hips, and torso, will probably take advantage of the design and sculpt to obscure them.

One other detail – the figure will clock in at around 13 inches tall.

Webswipe: ThreeA Toys Teaser for the Invincible Iron Man, Marvel Series One Release One – Kadoo (3A Forum)

3A Iron Man WIP - via KadooKadoo from the 3A Forums has posted a teaser “from the Goodsmile Booth at Harikore” (not sure what company and show to which that refers) that reveals the first figure due from 3A Toys’ Marvel license. And with Iron Man 3 crushing the big screen this weekend, it’s fitting that the inaugural figure will be the Invincible Iron Man.

So – what do you think? Since this is not yet final and hasn’t been painted, I’ll just stick to my previous thoughts about the license and some general first impressions. When I had the chance to ask Ashley Wood about how he envisioned handling the Marvel license, at the top of my mind was the question of how stylized his re-imaginings of the Marvel characters would be. I think the Iron Man teaser answers that pretty clearly – when the finished product comes out, these figures will likely be more at home with other 3A lines rather than more traditional Marvel figure lines, like those from Hasbro such as the Marvel Legends Icons, or the Hot Toys Marvel movie figures.

With the uni-beam and distinctively shaped face plate on his helmet, this is unmistakeably Iron Man, but the lanky proportions and over-sized hands and feet, among other things, makes this a decidedly 3A figure. It is what I expected, but not quite what I was hoping for – the part of me that wants a mainstream comics-based Marvel line in 1/6 scale would have been ecstatic over a more literal interpretation, like 3A had done with its Star Wars prototypes and its upcoming Capcom Lost Planet figures.

But don’t take that as disappointment. Rather, this direction will just need a little shift in mindset – from action figure to art figure. From that vantage point, I think I’ll be better able to justify the triple digit cost, and better tolerate the long waits between art pieces.
