SDCC 2016: Hasbro Reveals Marvel Legends Spider-Man Wave and Dr. Strange Movie Figures

SDCC 2016 - Hasbro Marvel Legends (Preview Breakfast) (1 of 23)

Hasbro kicked off San Diego Comic-Con 2016 with their Brand Preview Breakfast. This included reveals for Star Wars, Transformers, My Little Ponies and more, but I focused primarily on the new reveals for Marvel Legends.

The reveals included a wave of Spider-Man Legends consisting of Green Goblin, Spider-Man U.K., Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), an updated black-suited Spidey, Spider-Man 2099, and Jackal. Hasbro also had two Dr. Strange movie figures – the Benedict Cumberbatch Dr. Strange and Chiwetel Ejiofor Baron Mordo.

SDCC 2016: Hasbro Reveals Marvel Collector’s Vault and Raft Exclusives

Hasbro Marvel SDCC 2017 exclusives

With San Diego Comic-Con just over a week away, Hasbro has released details for its Marvel exclusives. While the Collector’s Vault (in Marvel Universe 3.75-inch scale) and the Raft (in Marvel Legends 6-inch scale) have been steadily making the rounds on eBay, we’re glad to finally see the official pics and specifics.

In recent years, Hasbro has leveraged the upcoming year’s Marvel movie slate for its exclusives, like it did with last year’s Marvel Legends Book of the Vishanti set for this year’s Dr. Strange. Likewise, we’ve got the Marvel Universe Collector’s Vault aligned with next year’s Guardian’s of the Galaxy 2 and the Marvel Legends Raft set aligned with next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since these exclusives are planned up to a year in advance (and therefore up to two years ahead of the movie release), they do not likely reveal characters or plot points for the movies themselves… but it’s still fun to speculate.

As with exclusives in previous years, both the Collector’s Vault and the Raft will be available in limited quantities following Comic-Con at HasbroToyShop.com. We’ll be picking ours up (hopefully) at SDCC next week!

Toy Fair 2016: Hasbro Marvel Legends Report

Toy Fair 2016 - Hasbro Marvel Legends Report

In the past, I’d separate the Hasbro Marvel reports into Marvel Legends and everything else. At this Toy Fair, Hasbro has completed the consolidation of all the collector-oriented Marvel lines into the Marvel Legends brand. And while this will certainly cause confusion for non-collectors who shop for their collector loved ones, it’s really a testament to the strength of Legends.

Think back to 2007, when Hasbro first started producing Legends. Back then, it was clear that the star of 6-inch Legends had faded; Hasbro was focusing on their bread and butter 3.75-inch scale. Today, however, it’s 6-inch that is propelling the brand forward. Over 8MM units have been shipped since Hasbro first took over the license. Over 200 figures (many more if you count variants) have been produced.

Toy Fair 2016: Hasbro Marvel Legends Press Pics

Toy Fair 2016 Hasbro Marvel Legends Press Pics

We’ll kick off our Toy Fair coverage with the Marvel press pics shared by our pals at Hasbro. I’ll forgo the broader write-up for when I process my own pics from the Hasbro showroom, but let me give you the broad strokes:

  • Marvel Legends is doing better than ever…
  • … so much so that not only the 3.75-inch line has been rebranded Legends, but Hasbro is adding a 12-inch Legends line too.
  • 6-inch Legends will see more two more Cap waves, a Spider-Man wave, an X-Men (whodathunkit?) wave, and a Dr. Strange wave this year.

Now onto the pics!
