Weekend Toy Run: Marvel Legends All New X-Men Exclusive Set Up For Pre-Order

Marvel Legends All-New X-Men - Packaging

Toys R Us has their exclusive Marvel legends All New X-Men box set available for pre-order. The preliminary info we had (check out more pics of the Marvel Legends All New X-Men box set) had the set due to arrive at stores a the start of this month for $84.99. The pre-order page has it listed with an expected 3/19 ship date and an $89.99 price tag.

A delay in overseas shipping is pretty common, but the price increase is just Toys R Us looking to capitalize on the increased popularity of the current Legends line-up, which has had pretty good sell-through in their stores. I guess the silver lining here is that the Marvel Legends line is selling well.

Toy Fair 2014: Pulp Fiction Licenses Multiple Action Figure Lines for 20th Anniversary

Funko ReAction Pulp Fiction

It’s “When did I get so old?” time – Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction turns twenty this year. That’s twenty years since John Travolta’s career was revitalized so he could get out of movies like the Look Who’s Talking franchise and go on to star in fare like Michael (the angel movie) and Battlefield Earth. Ok, so maybe Pulp Fiction was more of a blip on his career path.

To capitalize on our nostalgia factor, two companies – Funko and Diamond Select Toys – have jumped onto the Pulp Fiction license, and are producing four separate action figure lines to capture our collector dollars.

DC Collectibles Shares Details on the Batman: The Animated Series Figure Line

To whet our appetites for their new Batman: The Animated Series figures, DC Collectibles has posted a feature that provides background on the animated shows which are the source material for the designs, and details the features of the figures shown thus far – Batman from 1997’s New Batman Adventures and Catwoman from 1992’s The Animated Series. I don’t think I’ve seen this in print anywhere, but I believe that Gentle Giant is the design studio behind these figures.

If you hadn’t heard, the first wave will have two more figures – Mr. Freeze and Two-Face, both based on the 1997 designs. But it’ll be a long wait for the four figures. They’re due to hit shelves in November.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer Will Blow You Away

Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Trailer Pic

The Guardians of the Galaxy just got its first official trailer, and flark if it didn’t blow me away. It hits on all the right notes, evoking Indiana Jones (Raiders Indy, not Crystal Skull Indy), Firefly, and even a little bit of the Usual Suspects. I think Marvel has nailed it with its casting again (why can’t Warner Brothers figure it out for DC?), and if this is a smash, Chris Pratt should be catapulted into RDJ heights of stardom. But make no mistake, I think Rocket Raccoon will steal every scene in this movie – both kids and adults will love him.

This is all good news for the toys. The Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Legends Infinite Series figures should hit shelves in July, and three LEGO Marvel sets for Guardians of the Galaxy should hit in June. The movie opens August 1st.

Toy Fair 2014: More Pics of the Masters of the Universe Classics Rio Blast

Masters of the Universe Classics Rio Blast 1 Masters of the Universe Classics Rio Blast 2 Masters of the Universe Classics Rio Blast 3 Masters of the Universe Classics Rio Blast 4

Mattel shared some additional pics of the Masters of the Universe Classics Rio Blast on the Mattycollector Facebook page. Rio Blast was revealed at Toy Fair as the September Club Eternia figure at their collector preview event. It’s almost a shame to cover up that head sculpt with all that gear, which is absolutely ridiculous in a fun, over-the-top MOTU way – Rio Blast has one of the more striking head sculpts for a Masters figure in recent memory, hearkening back to Fisto.

I hope that the design team will revert to the older style chest overlays, which don’t bloat the figures as they did with Sea Hawk. The chest piece looks great here on the prototype, but we’ll have to see how it looks in production.
