Toynami Announces Reacquisition of Voltron, Retirement of Bleach and Naruto

After a short stint with Mattel, Voltron has returned to Toynami – and they’re already promising to outdo the Club Lion Force 23-incher from Mattel with a 24-inch jumbo Voltron. In my opinion, Toynami feels like a better fit for the license, and we did like what we saw of Voltron at SDCC this year.

Sad to see toy lines end – I know Sandman will be disappointed about Toynami ending its run with Naruto.

Toynami Voltron announcement SDCC 2013 Toynami Voltron

Hey everyone! Join us as we welcome return of an old favorite: Voltron!

Under Toynami’s new agreement with Classic Media and World Event Productions, fans can expect to see collectibles toys, from a all new 24″ Jumbo Voltron to a high-detail transformable die-cast, celebrating Voltron’s 30th anniversary! Look for more details on our exciting new line of Voltron products soon!

As Toynami welcomes back one license, we must regretfully bid farewell to two others. After a long and mutually beneficial relationship, Toynami has elected to end its Bleach and Naruto product lines. Thanks to all the fans for their outstanding support!

Video: Toy Guru Reviews the Power-Con 2013 Masters of the Universe Classics Reveals

Mattycollector Power-Con 2013 MOTUC Review

In this post-Power-Con update, Toy Guru runs through some of the finer features of the Masters of the Universe Classics reveals. Some of the highlights: Battle Lion parts can convert Battle Cat to his 200X version, Horde Troopers come with two of each accessory, and Modulok can come apart everywhere the vintage figure did – except at the torso.

DC Universe Classics fans, don’t torture yourself over the hook-handed Aquaman sitting carded on top of the Castle Grayskull box. I’m betting that production was underway for him even while Club Infinite Earths was starting its death throes. I’m not really a fan of the look, but I do want a Morrison JLA, so if he does go up for sale, I’ll try to get him.

Diamond Select Toys Has Marvel Minimates and Marvel Select from Thor: the Dark World

Marvel Minimates - Thor the Dark World 1 Marvel Select - Thor the Dark World 1

We’re a little over a month away from Thor: the Dark World, and if you’re jonesing for toys, then Diamond Select Toys has got you covered – they’ve got Thor Minimates and Marvel Select figures on the way.

Minimates allows them to go pretty wide – not just the main guys in Thor, Malekith, and Loki, but they’ve got a Dark Elf army builder, Eric Selvig, and and Darcy Lewis represented. Kat Dennings fans rejoice! I’m surprised at Darcy but no Jane Foster – I’m guessing she’ll show up at big box retail, as this series is headed to comic book and specialty retailers.

Jane will definitely make an appearance with Thor in the Marvel Select line. The figures will be sold separately but will each have bases that connect to form a diorama for the figures. Are we supposed to call that BAD (build-a-diorama)?

NECA Reveals Predators Series 10 – the Kenner Series

NECA Predators Series 10 01

I love it that the toy companies are stepping up their game with their product photography. Case in point, NECA has gone hunting with their pics of Predators Series 10. This set of three figures, the Nightstorm, Hive Wars, and Lava Planet Predators, are based on the vintage Kenner figures from long ago in the mid-nineties. They look great!

Predators Series 10 should hit toy shelves in the next couple of weeks.
