Border Patrol: Transformers Overlord, Devastator, Optimus Prime, Kill-O-Watt, and Acidstorm / Icestorm

This week, the customs scene on eBay was overloaded by some pretty impressive custom Transformers. The list was dominated by the G.I. JOE crossover Overlord, which has broken $1K with five days still remaining in the auction.

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

Here’s the Castle Grayskull You Wish You Could Buy

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When Jaime Einloft posted his Castle Grayskull custom on the Fwoosh, I felt more than a twinge of jealousy. Sure, I still have a pre-order in for Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Classics version (for now, at least), but this massive display piece is everything I could have hoped for from the source of Eternia’s power. Too bad it’s one of a kind.

Hot Toys Reveals First Diecast Figure – Iron Man 3 Iron Patriot

Hot Toys Iron Man 3 Iron Patriot 1

Hot Toys has announced the first in its Diecast line of figures – the Iron Patriot from Iron Man 3. I am not sure whether this line is a competitive response to other diecast 1/6 products, like those of Singapore’s Play Imaginative, or just a natural line extension into an even more premium product. Either way, with increased shipping weight and more expensive materials, I am curious how these will be priced.

The Iron Patriot will have light-up features and a removable face plate revealing Rhodey (with Don Cheadle’s likeness, not yet finalized) but not much else – I wonder if they reduced the number of features to help keep the cost down. We’ll have to wait for pre-orders from Sideshow and others to get the full picture.

Masters of the Universe Classics Jitsu Quick Pics

[instapress tag=”afpjitsu” piccount=”0″ size=”150″ effect=”fancybox”]

I am visiting my parents and had a stowaway – the Masters of the Universe Classics Jitsu. The horse is a souvenir my dad has from his days working in China, and I snapped a quick picture of it with Jitsu. And before long, I had this quick series of shots. Jitsu’s victim is an old Hulk Hogan from way back when Hasbro had the WWF license. I had a bunch of wrestling figures back in the 90s, and my dad asked if he could have one. And wouldn’t you know, he’s kept it in better shape than I have done with my modern day collection.

There’s a certain joy, being unburdened by camera gear and lights – I shot these with my camera phone and the sunlight coming in the window. It reminded me of my younger days, taking the original Jitsu figure out to the backyard and shooting pictures of him with an old hand-me-down 35MM. In a way, that’s what started this all.
