SDCC 2013: More Four Horsemen Pics

Screaming American Eagle 1 Screaming American Eagle 2

Update: The Four Horsemen’s Gothitropolis Ravens Kickstarter project is still on a tear. Backers unlocked the secret figure yesterday morning – a screaming American Eagle. Eric Treadaway and Cornboy said that they didn’t think the project would get this far this fast. They said they had to put in an emergency call to the studio to prep the Eagle. In their haste, the figure shown has two left hands, but they say this will be corrected!

More pics from the Four Horsemen booth.

Really love the Kickstarter Gothitropolis Raven stuff!

Toy Fair 2013: Four Horsemen to Kickstart Fantastic Exclusive Ravens

Talked to Cornboy briefly at Toypocalypse tonight – the Four Horsemen will be launching a Kickstarter campaign to finally get the Fantastic Exclusive Ravens into our hands.

I’ve got to admit – I’m a bit of a crowdfunding fanatic, and I am regularly looking for cool projects to back on Kickstarter. So when I saw the green Kickstarter logo next to 2-ups of a new set of Ravens and variants, I was pretty enthused. In the past, the Four Horsemen were able to fund the production of the Fantastic Exclusive Seventh Kingdom and Gothitropolis figures, with a little assistance from some of the toy sites and retailers. At the Fwoosh, we were pretty excited to participate in two of those waves.

In the years that followed, though, the economics to self-fund a super-articulated line grew too onerous, and the 4H focused on smaller, less articulated figures like the Outer Space Men. But the Ravens remained near and dear to their hearts, and with the advent of crowdfunding, they believe they’ve found a way to get these made.

They showed eleven figures, including the fanboy-inspired minotaur / duck mashup, but at this point haven’t decided what will be included in the Kickstarter campaign. There’s still discussions on whether some of the variants belong in Seventh Kingdom or Gothitropolis. While some folks might have a stake in one or the other, to me it makes no difference – just get these birds made!

Toy Fair 2011 – Four Horsemen Interview – Part 1 with Eric Treadaway

Four Horsemen and Mattel (l to r): Chris Dahlberg, Steed Sun (Mattel), Eric "Cornboy" Mayse, Eric Treadaway, and Jim Preziosi

The Four Horsemen have a Four Horsemen Fridays feature on their website, so we’ll hop on their coat tails for that. Hagop and I got to sit down with two of them at Mattel’s Collector Event at Toy Fair. It was really a treat talking to them, while surrounded by the 2-ups and prototypes of the action figures they’ve designed.

In our first part, we talk with Eric Treadaway, designer and sculptor, about Masters of the Universe Classics, DC Universe Classics, and fan reaction to some of the controversial reveals. We’ll post the second part, our conversation with Cornboy, on the Fwoosh next week.

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 – Four Horsemen Masters of the Universe Classics Battle Ram Concept Prototype

At the Mattel Mattypalooza panel at San Diego Comic-Con last Friday, Toy Guru announced (among a ton of other things) that one vehicle would be sold as part of the  Masters of the Universe Classics line (not as part of the Club Eternia subscription – thanks for the correction, Matt) in the fourth quarter of 2011. The next day, we visited the Four Horsemen at their booth (shared with ActionFigureXpress) and we saw this piece – their concept for a Masters of the Universe Classics Battle Ram. Wow!

Toy Fair 2010 – Interview with Mattel’s Scott Neitlich (Toy Guru), Part 2

Scott Neitlich, Mattel’s Associate Brand Manager for its collector-oriented lines, was kind enough to sit down with Hagop (my tag team partner from the Fwoosh) and me for a catch-up session following the Mattel Collectors Preview.

This is the second part of the interview – I wanted to title the article “Toy Guru Announces Jitsu” but then common sense prevailed.  Part one of the interview is here.

H: Let’s go over what’s in store this year for Masters of the Universe.

Masters of the Universe Classics - Tytus 01 (769x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - Tytus 07 (1024x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - Gygor 01 (768x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - Gygor 03 (1024x1024).jpg

TG: The line is composed of 12 monthly figures, 4 quarterly figures (although there might only be 3 this year) but ideally 4 standard 6” quarterly figures, and then 4 over-sized figures which could range from $30-$60 depending on how big they are. So Battlecat was the first, Tytus will be the second, and then Gy-Gor will be the third.
