Toy Fair 2012 – Mattel Collector Night – Toy Guru Video

Mattel held its Collector Night event at New York Toy Fair yesterday, and Scott “Toy Guru” Neitlich was on hand to share the details of all the products they had on display.

Included in the mix were Voltron, DC Universe (including Club Infinite Earths, All-Stars, Young Justice, Action League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman Legacy, and The Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters), Masters of the Universe Classics, WWE, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and Cars. Following his presentation, Toy Guru fielded all the questions that the crowd threw his way.

Toy Fair 2012 – DC Universe Classics Report

DCU Club Infinite Earths (25) (1280x1280).jpg

Mattel held its annual Collector Night at New York Toy Fair yesterday, and we were on site to take pictures of the latest and greatest figures to be revealed across their collector-oriented lines. We’ll cover most of that over the next few days, but I did want to post what we has spawned from one of our favorite lines – DC Universe Classics.

So in this update, I’ll be covering the DC Universe Club Infinite Earths subscription, the retail-based DC Universe All-Stars, DC Universe Classics 2-Packs (Toys ‘R Us exclusive), Batman Legacy, and the 6-inchers revealed from the Movie Masters line for The Dark Knight. If you’re a fan of 6-inch DC action figures, there’s still plenty of stuff coming our way this year!

Toy Fair 2012 – The Hobbit – What to Expect from the Toys

We sought out The Bridge Direct, Inc., the master toy licensee for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again at Toy Fair yesterday. Unfortunately, they were not available for any unexpected parties and were not allowing pictures taken of product on display in the back of their hobbit hole.

Luckily for us, we did get to talk to an industry insider who has direct knowledge of the little known toy company, and I’ve put together some of their comments on what we can expect to see when Hobbit toys start hitting shelves in 4Q this year.

Toy Fair 2012 – Hasbro Marvel Universe Report

Marvel Universe (1280x720).jpg

Hasbro’s Dave Vonner presented his baby – the Marvel Universe line – at Hasbro’s Fan Media Day yesterday. Marvel Universe is still going strong in Hasbro’s bread and butter 4-inch scale, and we’ll see a pretty wide assortment of figures in single packs, comic theme packs, and more 2-packs for 2012.

Vonner also revealed the figure that he promised would blow us away. No, it wasn’t Blow Hard!

Toy Fair 2012 – Hasbro Marvel Legends Report

Hasbro Marvel Legends (1280x719).jpg

I can’t tell you how good it feels to be writing about Marvel Legends again at Toy Fair. Sure, the Marvel team got the clean-up spot in the schedule of yesterday’s presentations at Hasbro’s Media Fan Day, and Legends got the last spot in the Marvel presentation, but the showroom was a sea of the unwashed masses for most of the afternoon – it’s good to be back!

Dave Vonner got the nod for presenting both Legends and Universe (I’ll cover Marvel Universe separately), and while he didn’t get to reveal a whole lot for Legends, we got to see the progression for some of the Series 3 figures, as well as a reveal for 2012 – the Squadron Supreme’s Hyperion. Hyperion was shown as a rendering of a digital sculpt (I’ll guess Gentle Giant) and as such wasn’t available in the showroom. What we did see in there was both Series 1 (see Sandman’s review of Extremis Iron Man) and 2 packaged samples, as well as painted prototypes of Blade and U.S. Agent.
