I’ll enjoy pics of these when they come out – no sale date revealed yet for the Tomorrow Queen – but I still have been able to resist jumping onto the 1/6 3A bandwagon. I’ll enjoy pics of these when they come out – no sale date revealed yet for the Tomorrow Queen – but I still have been able to resist jumping onto the 1/6 3A bandwagon.

And for those of you who are 1/12 WWRp fans, great news – Ash has been posting on the 3A forums that a DIY / Gebi de Plume 2-pack will be dropped soon, and a 3AA-exclusive 3-pack including a WWRp Dropcloth will be part of that drop!  Could be as early as the end of this month. Wow!

The Princess is coming…soon

threeA Toys Adventure Kartel Ankous

Moldie’s got a lot to say about 3A and the Ankous, so I’ll keep the intro short. He’s done a bunch of guest reviews for us (see here, here, here, here, and here) – you think it’s time for him to become a regular on AFP?

Toy collecting is growing up. Those of us who grew up with the old Star Wars figures of the 70s and 80s and G.I. JOE and Transformers, a lot of us were sucked back in with well designed and heavily-articulated toylines like Marvel Legends, now largely considered a pivotal series in the history of action figures. All the while the whole concept of comics and pop culture as contemporary art has grown and infected the same generation, leading toys to become more and more about legitimate aesthetic and overall design and less about character recognition and franchise promotion, the toy world’s crust slowly cracked open exposing opportunities for new and diverse lines.

It’s no surprise that a company like threeA might shine under these circumstances. With the production of toy lines the likes of WWR (World War Robot, 1/6, twelve-inch scale) and WWRp (World War Robot: portable, 1/12, six-inch scale) which are promoting nothing except an artist (Ashley Wood)’s sense of aesthetic, toy collecting seems to be veering into a whole new direction of high-quality collectibles, and leaving, to some degree, the toy aisles to the kiddos.

But threeA’s not just about rendering grimy, diesel-swilling robots in vinyl. Not just about gas masks and one-sleeved renegade soldiers, nope. It turns out it’s also about an old-school classic adventure team with a contemporary, crusty twist. With a touch of “emo” for the whiney-kid set.

We’re talking Adventure Kartel, here – the details of which are fed slowly, tiny morsel by tiny morsel as new figures are released into the wild.

I’m a little hesitant on the price. At $28.14 (plus shipping) it’s pretty steep for a 3.75-inch figure and a die-cast ring. But hey, there’s only 2,814 of them.

Fantastic Exclusive Gothitropolis Scarabus Paint Sample Recap

We just got the first Scarabus paint sample in the other day, and we’re so excited about it we couldn’t wait to share it with you!
There are a couple of minor paint tweaks to be taken care of, but for their first pass we’re extremely impressed!

I was hoping for more Scarabus shots from the Four Horsemen for a their Four Horsemen Fridays feature, but I’m guessing they’re very busy getting ready for their Toypocalypse show, which starts this upcoming Friday.

I believe the last shot in this set is of a painted 2-up prototype that they used in a recent photo shoot. It’s pretty cool to see how the smaller figure is matching up with its 2-up. I always expect the production figures to be a downgrade in quality – I haven’t seen that with Scarabus, so the bar is set pretty high.

More shots to come in the next couple of days with some of the alternate parts in place, but for today here are a few front and rear shots of Scarabus in his basic form, along with one of his little Time Keeper buddies sporting his new Time Keeper War Armor!
