Toy Fair 2011 – Four Horsemen’s Toypocalypse

Toypocalypse (19) (1280x957).jpgToypocalypse (20) (1280x960).jpg

What an awesome way to start off Toy Fair – with Toypocalypse, an art show held at Toy Tokyo, featuring 10 years of action figure goodness from the Four Horsemen. The show opened tonight and will run through next Thursday, but I felt compelled to go tonight, before the craziness of Toy Fair began.

The show space was packed full of 4H fans – but the really overwhelming part was just seeing all the toys that the 4H have had a big hand in getting to our shelves. One section of the show space was dedicated to a “making of” section for the next figure that will be gracing our shelves – the Fantastic Exclusive Gothitropolis Scarabus.

It’s great to see more new video game action figures from NECA, and it looks like they’re continuing to try out various articulation schemes.

It’s How You Play…

…But with our new videogame action figures, we still win

2011 is off to a furious start and your friends here at NECA are rested and relaxed after a long holiday break. Oh wait, no we’re not.

That’s right. While you were knee-deep in egg nog and wearing glasses with funny numbers on them, we were working the entire time to continue to bring you all things awesome, and no doubt you’ll find our new action figures from the videogames Borderlands, Crysis 2, Bulletstorm and Splinter Cell: Conviction more than fit the bill.

We’ve got a lot to go through here, folks, so here’s the goods:

Borderlands
ClapTrap Action Figure

From the best selling videogame Borderlands comes this highly detailed poseable replica of everyone’s favorite robot, Claptrap. Poseable arms, wheel, and retractable drawer and antenna. Comes with display base.

Figure stands 6 3/4″ tall, has over 20 points of articulation, and is available in two different variations with different accessories for each.

Bulletstorm
Grayson Hunt 7″ Action Figure

From the makers of Gears of War comes one of the most buzzed about new shooters from this year’s E3, PAX, and TGS – it’s Bulletstorm. Lead character Grayson Hunt is highly detailed, 7″ scale, and is fully poseable with PMC rifle, goggles and more.

Crysis 2
Nanosuit 7″ Action Figure

Last but not least, the long awaited follow-up to Crysis brings us a brand new Nanosuit and it is represented with this amazing new action figure. The figure stands 7″ tall and has over 25 points of articulation and comes with the Scar assault rifle.

All of our new figures come in gorgeous clamshell packaging and hit stores in March 2011. For those of a more internetty persuasion, they’ll also be featured on our Amazon storefront.

Happy New Year! AFP’s Best of 2010

As we kick off the new year, I asked the guys to make their picks for for best [insert anything toy-related] for 2010. I wasn’t sure, since we just picked our “most thankful for” figures a few weeks ago at Thanksgiving, if we’d have much to add. Turns out there was plenty that impressed us above and beyond our Thanksgiving picks.

I’ll get us started.

Best of 2010 - Iron Man 2 - Iron Monger

Ron’s pick – Hasbro Iron Man 2 – Iron Monger

I don’t want to get typecast, because I picked the Marvel Legends Iron Man as one of Fwoosh’s Best of 2009. But this year, I think that the Iron Man 2 line from Hasbro, in particular the Comic series, went a long way in winning over fans who were missing their 6-inch Legends to the 4-inch scale.

The line has some really great sculpts, decent enough paint apps, and some fantastic articulation at that size. And, of course, it brought us this awesome Iron Monger – the huge, classic, comic-based blue version that I never thought we’d get, since the movie-based Iron Monger lined shelves for a while.

There were lots of Hasbro Iron Man news and reviews this year, but one of my favorite posts was highlighting this custom Iron Man armory by Thor-El.

Toys for Tots Auctions – CoolToyReview.com

CoolToyReview has a set of auctions for some rare toy collectibles that will directly benefit Toys for Tots. Canonball recently did a similar auction – see Turning $20.00 into $175.00 for Toys for Tots for more info on that – and it’s a great idea. Toys get into the hands of collectors who are on the hunt, and Toys for Tots (or your favorite charity) get more than the value of the actual collectible. Everyone wins!

Here’s the CTR items:

The auctions end between December 23 and 25th – click through and bid them up!
