SDCC 2013: Square Enix Play Arts Kai (Preview Night)

Square Enix Play Arts Kai (1 of 41)

It feels like there’s been a shift in the development of Square Enix’s Play Arts Kai lines. Its roots are in its video game licenses, but this show, most of the new products in the pipeline are in the various DC licenses that they’ve added over the past couple years. From Arkham Asylum / City, they’ve moved into the Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel in force, and they’re continuing to move forward with their DC variants line.

They have two cases that are still covered – if I were a betting man, I’d put my money on Arkham Origins. Any other guesses?

Toy Fair 2013: Square Enix Play Arts Kai

I am getting around to posting pics in the backlog from Toy Fair. My tag team partner from Fwoosh, Hagop, did such a great job with coverage that the pressure was off to get things posted – but I realized that I had more stuff in the backlog than I actually posted.

Here’s a look at the Play Arts Kai offerings from Square Enix. The 8-inch scale is a bit of an anomaly for the rest of my collection, but between the quality of sculpt and articulation scheme I put the Play Arts Kai Street Fighters on my Best of 2012 list. McFarlane Halo, DC Universe Young Justice, and More On Sale with Friday Doorbusters at Toys R Us

Toys R Us has an online deal today only for an extra 10% off, including already discounted figures. It’s a mish-mash of stuff, as usual, but there are some Halo and Young Justice figures on sale. I haven’t actually seen the new Halo stuff in stores, but got confused by the “6-inch” designation on the new stuff. Are the new Halo figures truly in the 6-inch scale? If so I might have to check them out.
